Mother of God, MP 39 is a thing of beauty! Just picked him up and I'm amazed.

Might have to branch out in to other toony autobots. What do people recommend?

Personally I enjoy Inferno and Grapple as my favorites to transform and looks. Especially Inferno with his ladder magic.

Edit: I haven't transformed Skids yet, but happy that he was made. Hopefully he is fun in hand as I have seen people say he is.

    Food for thought.

After some research. The recent MP 52 cartoon Seeker toy is based off the season 1 cartoon designs. While the MP 3 seeker robot design is based more on the sleeker season 2 cartoon design.

Season 1, 2, & 3 of the Generation One cartoon.
Each season have different designs for the seekers.
In Season 1 the seekers are more bulky, beefy and bigger.
While season 2 does seekers that are more streamlined, less bulky and smaller. While season 3 Ghost Starscream is more streamlined and smaller.

Even the 1986 TF Movie shows the seekers with season 1 and 2 designs. Movie king Starscream had a completely different design.

Theories abounded that the cartoon season 1 Decepticon were make bulkier and taller. As they were outnumbers by the more autobots cast in season 1.

It certainly seems like Sunbow gave all of the returning transformers better designs for season 2. Making the Decepticon shorter and sleeker.

Since the 1986 movie was being created a few years before 1986. It seems like the first quarter of the movie had season 1 designs. While the season 2 designs kicked in to redesign everyone returning from the first quarter in quarters 2,3 and 4.

Personally I prefer the more sleeker looks of the Mp3 seeker. Compared to the bulkier beefier newer seeker toy designs.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I still prefer the original MP Bee over the second version. I'm not saying its bad, I just prefer the earlier one.

I count inferno/grapple, new bee, new prime, sunstreaker, arcee, Megatron and the new seekers as being toon worthy. Also the new plus datsons, smokescreen and bluestreak fit in well despite limited articulation. And hound but that mold is broken so don't buy. Oh and the new trailbreaker.
Ironhide and ratchet are kind of halfway house. As is Shockwave though the plus version with a proper paint job may make the grade.

Plus versions of prowl, wheeljack, sideswipe and red alert don't make the cut through combinations of sloppy paint jobs, old style faces and being too wide and unarticulated.

Hot rod and tracks lack the polish the newer figures have. Magnus is too much bare plastic.

Thinking of selling off all my non toonworthy MPs. Other than MP10 which remains a classic.

I think they really stepped up from inferno onwards. They don't have to look EXACTLY like the toon for me ( as in the datsons and arcee). It's just the level of polish went up a level.

Got the reissues of Magnus, soundwave, bee and MP11 starscream after Megatron. And while I wouldn't say I was disappointed with them, I would have enjoyed them a lot more if they didn't feel a little dated after the move to hyper toon.
