For real... Don't particularly care for the figure as is... but it would make good fodder for a Cyberjet... and I wager no license means it'd be Voyager priced so easier to consider for kitbashing...

 

Im not convinced it ever sold out. More like it was taken down, in shame.

The reaction here was pretty indicative: this figure SUCKS.

Hasbro re-releasing it is not a sign that it's better than we thought. It's simply a sign that... they're re-releasing it!   And for a company that thinks raising prices 20-30% will help their sales... well, we'll just have to wait and see how hard this guy shelfwarms.  

EDIT: Sorry. I meant that Hasbro already jacked up prices: they can totally afford to keep manufacturing terrible molds! That $80 Rodimus Prime would cover a ton of bad decisions!    

 

Problems or not I think what many of us self absorbed Transformers fans miss is that for people like me, it isn't that this is a bad or good Transformer. I support this because there could be countless of lurkers out there who go "Holy shit I love the F14 and this is a Transformer."

All kinds of people exist and that's literally why I dig this toy myself. For all of it's issues it articulates well, as a good looking robot mode with an ace head, weapons that look good, drop tanks and even a few Sidewinder missiles.

FIND ME another transforming F14 that has the shaping, proportions, missiles, and drop tanks like this one. That's the appeal for me as someone who loves military stuff and cool ass alt modes.

 

For a figure of such lazy design, garbage plastic and even worse paint ... you almost gotta appreciate the sheer brass at Hasbro re-releasing it.

Like they hear it, but they don't give a $#!+, they're just gonna go their own way and OHHHOKAYNOW I got it, he's a Maverick.

 

Is there a much cheaper KO of this b/c this honestly looks like a cheap KO.

This could have been the opportunity to release the figure without the milky plastic and with a better paint job that doesn't look like a he followed a leaky diarrhea tanker, but they had to Hasbro it. I'm shocked they dropped the price $5 when they lost the volleyball-specific hands, that's not very Hasbro, so maybe this will have something catastrophically wrong with it, like the 21st century GPS - Gray Plastic Syndrome - or something along those lines.

 

Don't suppose you've got a photo of it with the paint off do you please ?

Do we know if it's a slight revision of the original design or a G1 style box like the Gigawatt and Ecto One?
The latter would make this apeal to me so much more.

I'm tempted to try something like the first image I posted, but while he looks a lot better there, the plastic still has that milky quality to it, and I'm still trying to think of a preexisting TF character I could repurpose him as...

I'd definitely be down for the Jolly Roger version too ! In fact I've been pestering Toyhax for the last 9 months to sort something out, but they won't confirm or deny whether they're releasing something.

I strongly suspect they will, but I'd guess they're waiting for the film to release first to maximise sales.

Let me know if you have a stab at picture 1 - I'm a fan hand at removing battle damage but I'm worried that the alcohol will remove the stickers on the jet so I want somebody else to try it first haha !!

 

I'm hoping they'll improve the deco. I liked the second Ectotron far better than the first one. I'd like it to be a similar case with Maverick.

 

He's stupid expensive now so...I'm glad to hear this. I wanted one to mod...it's a great mold for that.

 

I find it funny that the first half of this thread was people talking about the positives of this figure and then the secind half was people speaking as if it was universally reviled.  

 

And Hasbro can't reissue Earthrise Soundwave...
