You read my mind on that...i got interested in it via Wikipedia and i was utterly fascinated by the way they tied religion and the end times and good and evil within the confines of a travellling show during, of all times the Depression (1930s). Brilliant. Sam and Max had a show??!?!?!?!? damn....gotta check it out.
Discussions like this inevitably get me thinking about how much I despise the FOX network....ever notice that a lot of the shows that people mention are from that network? They have elevated the process of ruining decent shows to an art form. After the fiasco they had last year with Drive, Justice, Vanished, etc. I was seriously afraid to start watching any FOX show until it was two seasons old or there was evidence that it wasn't going to disappear after three episodes. I almost passed on watching Terminator until I saw evidence that it would be around for awhile, no need to get into watching a show that fox is going to air out of order, move around in the schedule, or just give up on after one day. My wife violated this rule with New Amsterdam, and now I fear that it's going to get the axe just because we kinda like the show. oh yeah, topic: Shows I thought ended too soon: Firefly, Action, Crime Story, Drive
Yes, and it was awesome! You can get the whole thing from Deepdiscount.com for like $20 and some change. And I honestly don't know how I forgot about Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. That was a truly amazing program. I watched the DVD set over and over untill I loaned to my Mom over the holidays, especially the last multi-episode story arc. The thing I think I may love about it though, is that it sort of became a show about itself, what with all it's talk of ratings and what you can't say on TV without offending people.
The Sam & Max cartoon compared favorably to the Lucasarts game, but not as much to the original black and white Steve Purcell comics. Nothing could live up to those comics thought, so it's not really a fair criticism. Even so, it limited how enthusiastic I could be about it.
Its worth mentioning that Telltale have just put the Surfin' the Highway collection back into print if anyone still needs to read the genuine article, probably the most black and random humor you can buy for a mere $20.
THANK GOD! Someone stole my copy when I was in college. I'll have to order this pronto. (Is "pronto" a real word?)
Arrested Development - this show had so much life left in it, it was a real shame that it got cancelled. Hopefully, the rumors of a movie come true. Although I think TV is the best format for AD, but I'll take anything. Alias - I'm glad this show didn't continue without Jennifer Garner(as was rumored), but I really didn't like the last episode. I'd like to think that another season or at aleast a few more eps(because the last season was cut short) would possibly have given them the chance to think things over and avoid doing some of the things that I thought were just plain wrong. Firefly - I only watched this after the movie came out. I'm kind of glad for that, because I would have been really upset if I watched this on t.v. only to have get cancelled after only one season. Reboot - I'm still upset with CN over this. I'm not sure if this show was technically cancelled, but CN really screwed this show over. They easily could have finished the show with 1 more TV movie. Now with the passing of the voice of Megabyte(can't remember the actor's name) and the fact that I don't think Mainframe is really the same company now as it was then, we'll never see this show finished. Hopefully a proper DVD release of the whole series will come out eventually. Exo-squad - They actually finished the main storyline, but they left plenty of seeds for more stories and the final episode ended in a cliff hanger. I'd still like to see some sort of continuation of this show. A straight to TV/DVD movie or series of movies, or short TV series might be enough. I'm not sure another long epic story would be necessary. The show should have been on Toonami back when it was a block of "action cartoons" and not just anime like it eventually became. Maybe, if it had been aired then it could have experienced a resurgance in popularity(I'm sure there would have been tons of people who got the chance to watch it for the first time) which maybe could have lead to more stories of some sort. Mostly, I just want this damn show released on DVD already. I'd lead a march on Universal if I could.
anyone still upset over Taxi? it had a decent run, but it had such an ensemble that it could have been like Cheers. and thanks for the heads up on Sam and Max.
There were a good many show s canceled before their time. Sam & Max-I just won the DVD pack recently and watched the whole series. *sigh* that was a great show. Such randomness. Surface-This show was excellent. What makes me ticked the most is that they canceled it on a cliffhanger!!! You couldn't make at least one more episode to end the show? Reboot-I completely agree with you, Neomarsala. Stupid CN and their passion for showing olnly non-plot driven shows made for 2-8 year olds. Btw the voice actor for Megabyte was Tony Jay. I'm sad to here he died. The Flash-What happened to great live-action superhero shows like this? It's like after the 90's it was like the people at the TV studios said "alright all live-action superhero shows from now on must be soap operas!" MANTIS-Another fun superhero show that was able to watch when Scifi picked it up. Nightman-This was also good. Maybe I can get a whole series pack at Comic-Con hmmmm.
I was starting to get into Drive when they canceled it. Had it been given time I think it might have done well.
Flash - this was a lot of fun, I've got friends who can't stand it (they first watched it when I got it on DVD) but like Wonder Woman and Greatest American Hero, it's just classic tights in action. We need more shows like this today. My 8 yr old niece loves Wonder Woman and Greatest American Hero, so there's still a good chunk of an audience that could be out there. I had hopes for the JLA series that was being prepped a while back, but from all reports, it sucked. I've never seen anything more than a blurred picture of what looks like Green Lantern from it, poop. Enterprise - it had some dodgy episodes early on, but I loved it... to me, it really felt like what was leading to TOS all the way through - all the stumbling blocks that 100 years later had been ironed out made for some great viewing. They also went back to the triumvirate-style of cast, which hadn't really happened since TOS... which I understand a lot of the people who came in via TNG, DS9 and VOY didn't like. My family are big Trek fans, though, and we all loved Enterprise. Those are the ones that other people have commented on. Now, for the ones that no one has. American Gothic - was it just me, or did this seem like they got to the last episode and realised they were being canceled or something, and wrapped everything up really quickly? This was a great show. Earth 2 - yeah, yeah, soap opera in spaaaaaaaace, but I loved it all the same. Was a lot of fun, and looked great. Ended on a shocker of a cliffhanger at the time as well, back in the days when the cliffhanger still wasn't the done thing in every TV show in the world.
Do you go to any comic conventions? They usually sell bootleg copies of the pilot. I have yet to buy one but I have seen them there.
There's suposed to be a New Reboot Movie direct to DVD coming out later this year. And As of the last I heard Universal is planing a DVD release of Exo-Squad in 2009
Heres a few minutes from the crap that was the TV live action JLA. Trust me I went to the trouble of down loading it a few years back and regretted it ever since.
I go to the single comic con we have every year, and I've never seen it there. Of course, the fact I live in Australia may have something to do with that.
