1.) It looks like the bird wings play a big part in forming the missile carrier mode so that would be a lot of retooling for too little pay off.

2.) FH have done redecos/retools like Thunderclash and Machine Wars Prime from PMOP and they didn't remove the super mode at all. They are most likely not going to remove multiple transformations for a simple redeco since if you don't want Machine Wars Soundwave to turn into a bird all you have to do is not transform him into one and you still have the other two modes.

 

I don't feel that I need this. As the Hasbro version with the Third party extension leg kit is great.

 

You're comparing apples to oranges though.

Hasbro Doubledealer - especially with the Godmasters that came in the set with the two tapes and the 3rd party upgrades - is a fantastic figure that fits into a modern main line/Generations collection perfectly.

This figure is MP scaled and is designed to fit into a different collection altogether.
While Fans Hobby's figures aren't as detailed as a lot of official MP figures or 3P designed to fit into an MP collection, they're sized appropriately but have generally less complex transformations and sturdier designs than their peers which is part of the reason I love their figures so much.

Blocky, but that's pretty much standard for Doubledealer's bird mode.

Totally fine the missile on the back removing the unformated implications (now that I think about, I'm sure you do the same with the G1 toy)

Especially since it seems the robot head is actually hidden away in his alt mode and not holding the missile

 

Speculating when they show colored pics. This will help some decide if they want this toy or not.

Wonder if they will release the U.S or Japanese colors first. Guessing the U.S colors first as they are the best.

 

I would expect them to release Masterforce colors first. I've read that the Masterforce colors are mostly the same as the US toy colors instead of the Japanese colors for whatever reason, except for the face.

FH always does this, one mode at a time over a few days, the more modes the more days. The only question is whether they will show both the normal bot mode and bird bot mode at the same time or separate them.

 

How the wings transform is ingenious. I just hope it holds together properly in all modes.

It was when they were readily available at Ollie's and Ollie's was sending coupons left and right that I regretted buying Hasbro's efforts so quickly. A good figure and certainly the best option a year and a half ago but now I suppose I will be making additional purchases.

But now FansHobby needs to help me out and make that G2 Megatron we deserve for buying Laser Prime.

 

The back looks not so good. I wish some other company will make MP scale doubledealer. I'm not happy about the robot mode's back, also the truck mode, and the eagle mode's wing, it's all this piece's problem.

 

At least FH didn't try and hide it, being open and up front about their design, good and bad.

 

The problem is those parts are going to exist and based on physics where do they go? They have to be where they are in truck mode and eagle mode. I thought it was quite clever how they transform in eagle mode and then FH managed to get a fourth mode out of this design to give Doubledealer a second bot mode. Your position is well founded because FH's modus operandi are complicated transformations with panels and they have one with those wings but managed to do a decent job. When you have a noncongruent alt modes on a triplechanger like this with a bird and truck you are going to have major issues in hiding parts. Astrotrain was a shuttle and locomotive that shared a long cylinder shape. Octane passenger jet and tanker with cylinder shape. Animal with curves and irregular shapes does not work well with a boxy vehicle or in this case one with angles as well.

 

Indeed, I appreciate FH's release grey mode to let people make up their mind.

Maybe it's my own issue, I just couldn't stand this awkard piece in all 3 modes.

 

Somehow I feel the G1 Doubledealer's wing is a better design even it's more than 30 years old. It doesn't fold into a box in truck mode, didn't become a huge backpack in robot mode, and looks more like wings than 2 piece of rectangle papers.



This might be the occasion that I wish TransArts just step in and do the DoubleDealer, just add better articulation for G1 toy and I'm happy.
