We're talking about G1 so it's unfair to include Beast Wars just to win an argument.

If we count individually numbered G1 releases, there are 26 from 2003-2015 and 35 from 2016-2022 (including Trailbreaker).
However, there are a lot of repaints included in both, especially post-2016 with the slightly retooled or repainted figures from earlier, as well as other things like Diaclone repaints.
So, if we count once per character (and multiples for Optimus Prime, Megatron and the Seekers, who have had multiple different moulds), we get 22 vs. 19.

And for the sake of transparency, here are the figures I counted:
    2003-2015:
    2003:
MP-1 Optimus Prime (I'm not counting any of this mould's repaints)
    2006:
    MP-3 Starscream
    2007:
    MP-5 Megatron
MP-6 Skywarp (counted because it's a different character)
    2008:
    MP-7 Thundercracker
    2009:
    MP-8 Grimlock
    2011:
    MP-9 Rodimus Prime
    MP-10 Optimus Prime
    2012:
MP-11 Starscream (not including the repaints because they're "special editions")
    MP-12 Sideswipe
    MP-14 Red Alert
    2013:
    MP-13 Soundwave
MP-15 Rumble & Ravage (technically separate but counted as one)
MP-16 Frenzy & Buzzsaw (same as above)
    MP-17 Prowl
    MP-18 Bluestreak
    MP-19 Smokescreen
    2014:
    MP-20 Wheeljack
    MP-21 Bumblebee
MP-22 Ultra Magnus (for the sake of argument, I'm counting this as "pre-cartoon accuracy" even though it's debatable)
    2015:
    MP-24 Star Saber
    MP-25 Tracks

I skipped Exhaust and Road Rage since they're Diaclone-inspired repaints with only minor retooling.
    The total here is 22.

    2016-2022:
    2016:
    MP-27 Ironhide
    MP-28 Hot Rod
    MP-29 Shockwave
    MP-30 Ratchet
    MP-33 Inferno
    2017:
    MP-35 Grapple
    MP-36 Megatron
MP-37 Artfire (technically isn't a G1 character but he did get a G1 toy in Japan so I'm counting him)
    MP-39 Sunstreaker
    2019:
MP-44 Optimus Prime (I'm not counting the Black Convoy repaint, similar to MP-1)
    MP-45 Bumblebee
    MP-47 Hound
    2020:
    MP-51 Arcee
    2021:
    MP-52 Starscream
MP-52+ Thundercracker (counted because it's a different character)
MP-52+SW Skywarp (counted because it's a different character)
    MP-53 Skids
MP-55 Nightbird (debatable, and I originally excluded it, but she's a G1 character from the cartoon)
    MP-56 Trailbreaker

Here, I skipped all the + repaints other than the two other main Seekers, because otherwise it gets messy to count, especially since most are just basic repaints/retools, and then we have things like MP-36+ which is toy-based.
    The total here is 19.

You can do whatever you want with this data. It certainly is more half-and-half than I admittedly thought.
With that being said, there are a lot of repaints of all kinds, including of older figures to try to make them more "cartoon accurate" (whilst arguably failing miserably at that, depending on who you ask), so I tried to only include the ones who are G1 characters or had G1 toys and weren't just random repaints or Dialcone homages.
To be honest, I feel like I was a lot more lenient with the stuff from 2016 and onwards because I didn't include the MP-11 repaints but I included the MP-52 repaints, and arguments could be made both ways. Arguments can be made for the various Cassetticons, too.

Anyway, the point isn't so much that I'm right and you're wrong, or that you're wrong and I'm right, but that it's not exactly clear-cut, and my original point still stands that, at least in terms of time, the old style has been the focus for longer, and a lot of the old figures have been shoehorned into the new style, for better or worse.

Again, you really need to just discount MP-01 through 08 entirely (09 is debatable), because there was no thought to a unified aesthetic there at all. They were all effectively one-offs.

They also skew the time frame heavily, because it makes it seem like non-toon was going for longer, but MP releases were only like, one per year back then, as opposed to 3-5 now.

Thanks for posting this comparison. Now that I’ve had a chance to look through MP TB’s pics, I thought I’d share some thoughts on MP TB and his 3P options.
MMC & Badcube certainly have the best alt modes of any of the options but my goodness those bot modes do not do them any favours. XTB and FT look like decent bot modes with XTB winning out over FT in most areas save for the arms, those forearms are HUGE! But at least he doesn’t have an ill-fitting bustier like FT, that looks horrible. Their alt modes are very much lacking any appeal though.
It looks to me like TT has the best of all worlds with a great looking bot and a pretty decent alt mode. My only niggle about MP TB is that his torso is slightly too long (I think that’s where the slightly wonky proportions come from).

Not bad actually. But I am firmly in the toyhead camp so X-transbots is at zero risk here. Wait, I think I mean MMC. I forget which, but it's the only one that offered the toy head.

The torso is a small sacrifice for all the other things they crammed in. Wonder if it looks as obvious with the blue windows shopped out.
Surprised no one has mentioned articulation

Interesting breakdown, but I'd argue Star Saber and Tracks are both of highly toon accurate style, and if you're going to include 1-9 (questionable as noted by others), then 9 is also highly cartoon accurate.

Honestly. I don't even care. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. It's not worth arguing about. Really I just get tired of people complaining about the cartoon accuracy every time a new figure is shown. When it was Inferno, I get it being disappointing. I was at first too. But each figure after that ignited my nostalgia for a cartoon I loved so much as a kid. You can not like it all you want. I just get tired of reading all the posts about it. If you don't like it (general you, not you TCJJ) why not just scroll past and look at things you do like? I'm on this particular thread because I like the new Trailbreaker. I never watched Beast Wars, but I don't complain about them ever time I see a new one. I just move on. And that's what I'm going do now. I'm just going to enjoy the figure and other peoples enthusiasm about it

Some dogs just like pooping on lawns all day long and smile when other dogs join in.

I a lot of people picking up on the sides but I'm looking at my xtb right now and it doesn't look a tonne better. The takara does absolutely everything else splendidly. That greybinstead of the usual white makes it pop so much

Agreed. The overall figure and details far out weigh the few “sacrifices”. TT certainly got a lot more right with their TB than the 3P options. Articulation appears to be top notch as well, which has become the norm for most MPs more recently.

I'm torn between Fans Toys and Takara Trailbreaker. If one of them came with a force field dome, or a force field shield that connects to his cannon like a bloosh I would pick that one and display it that way.

Very impressed. Looks like a great release. I see nothing about this figure that I wished they had done differently. Even the price isn't as steep as I'd expected.

Strange that the text "Toyota Hilux 4WD" appears in the video and there's the badging on the grill and the front fenders of the figure but there isn't a big Toyota brand logo flashed anywhere in the video. The "City" and "Honda" logos featured prominently at the start and end of the Skids/Reboost promo video.

There will most likely be a logo on the box. If the video mentions Toyota, then it’s licensed, guaranteed.
