Cybertron has had a number of different looks throughout the years, and at times could be described as dull or lifeless, so what look/design/style do you think Cybertron should have.

In some media, Cybertron has been depicted as dark, brooding, and dare say lifeless, and other more recent media like Cyberverse, can be seen more colorful and lifeful.

Yes, I would agree that some iterations of Cybertron are dare say dull and lifeless because they took it being a machine world a little too literal like Michael Bay.

    imageedit_1_7266640841.jpg

Personally, I would like to see Cybertron with more color and life, almost kinda like Cyberpunk esque/futuristic city vibes to it. Yes, it is a world run by machines, but why make it boring.

They are sentient beings of very capable intelligence with vast culture and society, so I refuse to believe they would build boring, plain, dull, and lifeless cities. It's an alien planet so why would it be boring? It should be chocked full of weird, crazy, and cool designs kinda like Guardians of The Galaxy, and not like the generic Grey scrap fest that were the Michael Bay designs. It should have personality and style. Just because they are machines, doesn't mean they aren't capable of doing such things.

I tend to imagine Cybertron as something of a patchwork planet, incorporating all of the above visual aesthetics into different sectors. Established cities like Iacon, Kaon, the Torus states, etc. would be neon-lit metropolitan expanses that are at once both glamorous and grimy, full of dead ends and obvious quick fixes from the various renovations and reconstructions conducted over the years. Other, more run-down sectors would be dingy hovels, while industrial sectors would be full of power plants and factories belching smoke into the atmosphere. Then there would be places like the Sea of Rust and the Acid Wastes, which used to be habitable but have long since become hostile. Features like the Sonic Canyons, Manganese Mountains, and other "seas" would either be left as "natural reserves" or incorporated into urban and industrial settings.

I see it as a planetoid, about the size of the moon, which was originally a mining operation for energon crystals.

    DSC04811.JPG DSC04812.JPG DSC04814.JPG DSC04815.JPG

It was converted into a livable world with multiple small cities, but with a small population of a several thousand cybertronians.

It does have an atmosphere that can support organic life and dense enough from air flight (planes/jet, and helicopters), but sustained artificially.

    38 C- IMG_001.JPG 38 C- IMG_002.JPG 38 C- IMG_003.JPG 38 C- IMG_004.JPG 38 C- IMG_005.JPG 38 C- IMG_006.JPG 38 C- IMG_007.JPG 38 C- IMG_008.JPG 38 C- IMG_009.JPG 38 C- IMG_010.JPG 38 C- IMG_011.JPG 38 C- IMG_013.JPG 38 C- IMG_014.JPG 38 C- IMG_019.JPG 38 C- IMG_020.JPG 38 C- IMG_021.JPG 38 C- IMG_023.JPG 38 C- IMG_031.JPG

It does have lots of main "highways" and such, but there are a LOT of underground section, as a huge section of the planetoid has been mined and converted as they processed it.

It does have much of an soil/rock type composition with very large metal/mineral deposits that are used for the main construction and conversion to what it looks like now. (and why so much of it is orange-ish).

It does have pretty of artificial light when things were going well, but it do rely a lot of it's location in space, in relation to stars/suns to provide a more "normal" day/night time, but if it is travellng, it can be fairly dark due to distance to nearly stars.

Due to the wars and wear during it's travel and such, the planetoid is in disarray, light aren't really a priority for the remaining population, and power consumption must be maintained low.

No fragile roads, no high building, as with the war would have destroyed them, or just space debris and such makes tall building nonsensical, and most building have to be short to be solid, and most are either storage or manufacturing plants or such.

Usually most buildings are just the surface section while they will have several lower/underground levels.

Varied, not just all the same environments repeated globally.

And actually show these biomes, too.

Agree fully, a lot of entries the planet looks like either one big city or just almost exactly the same with very little variation. They need to show more variety in style than just having it look all like one thing.

I can imagine biomes being dominated by different metals. Golden desserts. Silver Forest. Copper Swamps. The obvious sea of rust. Crystalline regions. Honestly I feel it could be quite beautiful. What I don't want is cities the size of a planet. Because honestly looking at the size of those cities, especially with them having 1000 km layers and the fact that the planet is somewhere between the size of earth's moon and Saturn, the Cybertronian population of sapient individual housing in those cities, must be at least in the quintillions, assuming the average Cybertronian is the Size of Bumblebee.

I haven't decided whether I want a depiction of Cybertron only little more developed than Earth in infrastructure, or a hollow machine world on life support. Depends on the story being told.

Basically, the way it was designed in the WFC/FOC games with a cyberpunk feel.

I agree, I really dig the whole futuristic vibe, and totally not biased by one of my favorite games ever.

I rather like this haunting and brutalist take on Cybertron, it almost reminds me of if Metru Nui was ravaged by a civil war.

I've been flirting with the idea of a Cybertron that looks radically different from everything we've gotten so far. What if pre-Great War Cybertron was a prosperous planet full of vast oceans, beautiful environments , and diverse life of its own separate from the "Transformer" race? Essentially a Gaia world in its own right. It could be biomechanical life like the actual Transformers or organic in nature. The Transformers live in great cities across the planet that don't dominate the landscape, but compliment it well and look just as awe-inspiring. Depending on the story being told and how these things are justified in-universe, I think it could make for an awesome and radically different take from the machine world we're so used to. In the type of story I'd like to tell, the past beauty of Cybertron compared to its current state could serve to amplify just how destructive the Great War would have been. And when the Transformers arrive on Earth, they see in it what Cybertron used to be, and it strengthens the resolve of both sides.

On a second note, I had a random thought. If naming such a planet "Cybertron" feels off, going with the Japanese name Seibertron that sounds kind of like "Saybertron" might work better.

Come to think of it, DOTM's version of Cybertron would work quite well for a subterranean layer of the planet, with the prominent support structures and ceiling present.

There are many designs of Cybertron that all look glorious.

I think the most fitting for me is a design that incorporates technology into it; a world populated by mechanical beings should be mechanical in nature too. The sentient beings, the architecture, the fauna and flora (Botanica has potential here), and even the core itself.

The closest I can think of is the 2007 Cybertron film, but with a more lively and cyberpunk feel.

For me, I guess it really depends on what era of Cybertron's history we're talking about.

    Golden Age
-devloped metropolitan cities like Iacon, Kaon, Crystal City, Cybertropolis, Helix, Tarn, Tyger Pax, etc-complete with their seedier areas where the seeds of dissention are planted; lush natural areas like the Manganese Mountains (some being not particularly friendly to native denizens like the Sea of Rust)-some of these areas are deemed mysterious with very little known about them; colonization is a goal for both expansion and discovery

War-metropolitan areas are somewhat disheveled but not uninhabitable, some more than others since Kaon is where the Decepticons primarily hailed from; some regions have been ravaged for resources and left in a forever altered state that will have long reaching consequences on habitability of the planet at large, areas once thought mysterious are now wrapped in myth and heavily avoided save for the very brave or foolish who find themselves there, all of these matters resulting in the Cybertronians departure from the planet taking their war to the stars

    Immediate Post War-Upon findings that the planet has begun to heal, the structural/cosmetic repairs have begun, the colonies once forgotten about once war broke out have remade contact, and in an effort to heal their home, provide resources from their home planet in the restoration efforts, primary areas of immediate attention are places of import like Iacon, Cybertropolis, Helix, Tyger Pax, Tarn, Kaon; preservation efforts of the once more natural regions are in swing, attempting to restore their home's more wonderous features; areas shrouded in mystery/myth start getting explored carefully to better understand them; all these efforts are not without the usual social/political strife which in turn lead to small skirmishes in some areas but overall not leading to a new war;

    Future/Golden Age II
-More akin to the Golden Age, but visually looks akin to how it looked in the finale of the Cybertron cartoon with areas both industrial and natural, vast sprawling cities restored to their former glory, the areas of myth/mystery better understood, wildlife like turbofoxes and such are back from the brink of extinction. A moderately peaceful society at large.

The way I envision Cybertron (ideal) is something like-

Kinda similar to Coruscant (Star Wars) but with more roads, highways and traintracks.
No atomsphere or rather no oxygens (I laugh in G1 Spike writing his journals about going to visit Cybertron).
I don't want the planet to be in a middle of space cos with no atomsphere, it just total darkness (well with stars) in the sky which make it boring. I would place it near a nebular or something with some colour in the sky. Maybe no sun either since it's not like they need a day or night cycle to sleep or to grow crops!
Also the planet should be like not human friendly like little to no sidewalks or something made easier for humans to access (like tunnels that is a mouse side to a regular Transformer) to since they never encounter little fleshy creature until arriving to Earth!
I think the building structures and whatever landscape or the ground shouldn't be under one colour or shades of it. One of the things I dislike WFC first game was the monotone colours eventhought it make sense in a way. FoC did improved it by throwing more colours into it thought!
Also I liked the G1 "golden" age being literally gold but not too gold to be blinding!
If they want to keep the whole castle cache system or the align countunity then the planet should have alot of towers or another level of floor above the ground and an underbelly of sort to repersent the whole higher and lower classes on Cybertron. If you know of Coursant underworld of Pixar Sparkshots "Smash and Grab" then you know what I mean.

every cyberpunk light show and tfa esque city can be on top of tens of miles of brutalistic bayverse cold unfeeling alien machinery
