I miss my Hound so much. No reissue was announced so I was thinking of simply buying a copy and calling it a day. Mine cracked, yes, but didn't break. Still, I returned it.

 

Looks glorious even in crappy pics. Looks like it's back to the mp44 style instead of Skids style too. Love the Fuso grill swap gimmick and the articulation is gonna be insane.

Looks a tad skinny, but I'd be interested in a Diaclone redeco for the right price, especially if it has some remolding.

 

Bought and when confirmed Fanstoys version cancelled.

 

On the subject of his model year, from what I can gather Diaclone Car Robot No. 5 Hilux 4WD came in 1982. Factor some development time and the latest he can be is probably 1981, or even 1980.

But anyway I'm pretty certain model year is not what's at play - the mirror location is a regional variation.

 

How so? The alt modes have been wrong for a while, just like this one with the mirrors that aren't on the animation model.

 

Wow! I just pulled my Ocular Max version off the shelf and was thinking about how it's dated. I'm excited for this. It will definitely have way better articulation. The Ocular Max version can go into alt mode or toy mode.

 

Yeah, many car makers have regional variations. I’m glad that Takara had taken this mirror part into account and thought it through.

 

I don’t have much nostalgia for Trailbreaker, but this is one fine looking toy! I’ll definitely be adding him to my collection, in all his charcoal colored glory.  

I know others have pointed this out as well, but I figured it was worth quoting y’all, since it’s easy to get lost in these threads. The chest defiantly looks to be the real deal, as you can see the holes where the mirrors fold in. That would be quite the odd detail to include otherwise. Plus, the detailing of the fenders matches the vehicle mode, and isn’t perfectly accurate to his toon appearance.

Because fender mounted mirrors are awesome?

I’m another clinical ADHDer, and although your initial comment didn’t bother me, I was disappointed to see you double down on it when someone expressed their concern. You are, or course, free to say whatever you want, but it will affect others’ opinions of you.

You are free to like whatever you prefer, but I can’t resist the opportunity to tease you a bit for disliking the cartoon focused design while celebrating his athletic silhouette; god only knows what we we would’ve gotten for him if they were toy or hybrid focused, but I imagine he’d be dumpier to double as Hoist!

This looks pretty good, but I have to say that for me at least, I think Takara took to long getting to him. Six years ago or so, I would have been much more excited. But as the MP limps along, with some characters having already gotten multiple molds and/or multiple color variations, the excitement had dwindled. Skids was great, and I love him, but like Trailbreaker, other company's have had their versions out for so long that the thrill of seeing a character in MP form has long gone. I have the Ocular Max Trailbreaker, which, while it has problems, got the need for an MP Tr5ailbreaker out of my system back in 2017. And that one at least came with his toy head (which, as a toy guy-over-show guy, I prefer). Unless this hits the same price range as Skids, I can't see even considering it.

Realistically, I can expect a fourth MP Prime and a third recolor of MP Prowl before Takara gets around to the Omnibots, or even any more Minibots. And that's a problem.

 

Just walk away friend, walk away. Only madness lies in trying to speak logic to the passionate.

 

Need to see him better before cancelling my FT preorder.
