Powerhug from Beast Wars II

 

Between Saberback last month and Moon/Powerhug this month I'm hoping whoever gets the TF license next gets the same roster access as IDW because it sounds like we missed out on a wild ride with IDW being cut short.

 

So Powerhug is just hanging out in the Predacons\' basement? And even Scorponok and Waspinator take dumps all over Skold? In one issue where Terrorsaur is doing his usual bully bit, Scorponok explicitly tries to soften his blows by suggesting she can still help at the base and I have a hard time believe Waspinator of all Predacons is belittling her as well. Burnham isn\'t setting the world on fire with his story (though I\'ve enjoyed it overall) but this seems like a misstep to have guest writers for this annual.

It's entirely possible when these were initially pitched they didn't have to reshuffle a ton of stuff to account for IDW getting the license taken away.

Ruckley still hasn’t learned that readers expect more from a Transformers comic book than characters standing around talking. Maybe there are action packed fight scenes later in the issue, but a preview is supposed to get the reader interested in buying the book not turn them off by how boring the preview is.

 

So it is a flashback now? Oh I get it, since they got cancelled, they are trying to tell the end of the war that barely began in this way? Odd that they chose Rodimus Prime as the narrator, when Hot Rod never even appeared so far in the main comics.
And I guess this writer has some beef against Sixshot that he turned him from a super powered badass to this loser who gets defeated by everyone?

I assume they know and have known for years. The main line of comics have a niche and tiny (compared to their peak numbers) set of fans who seem to want this and still buy the comics I assume IDW seeing it's numbers shrink didn't want to rock the boat for fear of loosing even more.

I'd love to see the internal meeting notes leak some day from the meetings Hasbro and IDW had. Because it seems like IDW was more then happy to sell 9k-ish issues a month (well when it wasn't delayed) to it's loyal fans while Hasbro prob wanted numbers closer to the TMNT, Sonic etc comics. I guess the two corporations visions of the brand didn't line up after years of business to put it lightly.

It's going to be interesting to see how they cap it off. I wont buy it or even pirate it I'll just wait for the wiki page to update about whatever weirdness they need to do to try and make it work.

 

So every comic is supposed to open with a battle scene now?

 

That’s what an action orientated comic like Transformers should do, yes.
