(And I want to see more obscure characters that won't get their own moulds having an opportunity to get new figures).

 

Eh oh well. I would have preferred them try to make the actual windows the chest instead, just completely negates the backpack.

I do agree with the leg wheels tho, and will take this moment to once again shit on the Legacy's shoulder design.

 

The shoulders arent ideal nor are they a dealbreaker for me. Granted a couple of knocked pins and an hour of modeling can fix that for me if I really need to

 

Laser Prime is better with the faux chest than the real one, sure his chest is clearly evocative of the standard G1 chest windows but they're obviously not meant to be said windows and they have a neat and unique look to them and the worst part of them is the Legacy one made them clear instead of making them bright red with tons of detailing and or Optimus's branding

With how obsessed they are at making the matrix visible when they finally make an Armada Prime (probably a minor Laser Prime remold because of course) they'd probably make his entire grill chest clear so you could see it.

I'd kinda want to see new characters from molds of that size, personally.

 

I kind of wish we'd get more figures like the disguised Mirage and Sparkless siege datsun, only make them toy-only characters. We don't get enough new ones of those anymore. I love being able to get a mold for either faction and those Netflix recolors and diacolor ones are filling that niche for me at the moment but it sounds like the Walmart one this time is all pretty prominent characters and there's only so much we can do with the diaclone based recolors.

 

I think the recent diaclone guys are a bit disappointing to me in that regard. I wish black ironhide had an actual name and bio for example.

I miss toy only characters though. Cyberverse didn’t have any, but some of the ones from prime and rid are highlights of the line. I think the toy only movie verse bots are some of the best movie verse designs as well.

 

Ofcourse I'd rather the Turbomaster posse to get their own dedicated molds - I mean I didn't get the Gen Selects Rotorstorm because it didn't capture the awesomeness of the OG - but I don't know whether Hasbro deems them viable.

But...if they continue the 2-in-1 approach of the recently revealed SG Magnus, this could both the SG Stunticons and The Turbomasters (albeit sans Rotorstorm); provided they can offer both heads ofcourse. So, while not ideal, I think it would be neat. That said, I don't know if I could be as 'forgiving' with Skyquake and Stalker...

One of the most disappointing aspects from Legacy Laser Prime is actually that they didn't get the windshield to work as the proper chest since that was one of the few positives from RTS/United Laser Prime. However, aside from a few... questionable choices (like some of the accessories lacking 5MM pegs for storage while having pegs for blast effects and the accessories that should be blast effect compatible aren't), I think that Legacy Laser Prime is by far the best update that particular design ever got.

There is a lot to love here. The main figure is very dense (even more than Earthrise Optimus I would say), the addition of the Matrix is appreciated (although I wish they included articulated hands to hold it), the new shoulders are a vast improvement since they allow for a more uniform look while not hindering articulation and they even include missile pods for extra playability. Most impressive of all is the transformation, they really didn't need to make it as complex as it is since the design doesn't require it but the fact that they took that extra effort is remarkable and, once again, they created and even more ingenious work than with Earthrise Optimus here. Hell, even the trailer is more solid than the one seen in the original mould, is still not perfect but at least it doesn't feel like a ripoff like the first one.

Still wishing for a few upgrades (like an EXTREME! 90s version of Roller) but aside from that, I'm really satisfied with this toy.

 

I can confirm it's a dox of a member of the fandom. Don't go looking for it, it's really fucked up.

 

I can take it or leave it for Laser Prime but since this one is gonna be repainted into scourge, the fake windows is absolutely a must. The chest detail aren't even windows on Scourge, just blocky pecs with gray and black rather than his red windows, so it'd look wrong.

 

I couldn't care less about that. The red translucent plastic just looks cooler.

 

One of the leakers claimed Scourge would be a retool... So I'm hoping that means the chest and shoulders will have this look.

 

Thatd just be Nemesis at that point

 

... Which Scourge is.

 

He can't even do the box art pose.

I mean Scourge did start the trend (not now Copy Convoy) so it would kind of make sense he'd acquire some aspects of Nemesis Prime in general.

And if he does, there's always Toyhax.
