Hell of a lot more creative than just G1 with more greebles. The constructicons were a buffet of unique bodytypes.

Not really, though - Demolishor/Scavenger's "unicycle" robot mode was clearly something quite impractical in the opening sequence (sure, it did a lot of collateral damage but how exactly is this guy expected to get around normally?), Hightower's insectile-like robot mode never got used on screen, and Rampage was just plain dumb because he was a glorified pogo stick (which, again, has no real practical use outside of the scene he appears in fighting Bumblebee). Everybody else is, well, bipedal humanoids with kibble as is the usual.

He never said anything about practicality, just that they were unique, which they were.

Hell, even the more standard humanoid guys were still total oddballs like Mixmaster's gangly arms covered in shields or Overload possibly being a scorpion-like centaur. Long Haul was the most "normal" of them all and he was still a big bulky dude beyond just the G1 design with greebles.

Don't misunderstand - a decent writing team that understands the source material (as nearly 99% of MCU movies show) clearly demonstrated that adapting the source material with a high quality script that respects the source material and understands it can and will succeed.
I cant think of any MCU movie that's "straight from the pages", so clearly I'm not suggesting that for TF.
Rather, they do research, respect the source material, and adapt it into a script that works - even when it's a "bad" script/story like Thor 2.

Bumblebee is as close as Paramount has gotten to that, and it's still in need of more love.
There's no need or excuse for creating non-existent characters out of thin air or simply slapping pulled-from-a-hat trademark names onto completely random or original designs when the core lore for so many characters provides an excellent and immediate template to build from.

Bumblebee with no voice? Prime acting ultra-violent and unhinged? Ironhide gone British, and black deco? Devastator being a soulless heap of randomized heavy industrial gear with ... genitals and no characterizations beyond being beast like murder bots?

Take existing lore, ADAPT IT to market it to a mass release audience, and let the core characterizations be the skeleton. Wheeljack a seasoned mechanic; Ironhide a RED vehicle with a grizzled, loyal soldier motif with a southern drawl; Sideswipe a cocksure grunt and a red high performance car motif; Sunstreaker a similar make to Sideswipe in yellow, maybe different model; and so on.

Doing G1 in CGI will not work. But adapting G1 character templates for 2022 and preserving the personalities, motivations, and subtle traits NEEDS to be done.
Hell, they did some of that for the Cybertron sequence in Bumblebee and that was WIDELY acclaimed by viewers. Learn from successes AND failures. Make bank. Repeat.

That's exactly what made it less bad. And the Cybertron sequence opening which showed that someone finally researched the source material enough to adapt it...somewhat. which is magnitudes better than anything Bay ever pooped out.

There's like, 20 different "source materials" though.

To some, Ironhide is a blue Montero. I believe it's the first episode of G1 that Prime grabs a laser rifle and goes all Scarface on a bunch of robots because freedom is the right of all sentient beings.

Pretty sure that's why the films were made the way they were: to create a new facet of the franchise (because there's not just G1) and go with that.

I'm still calling it, the movies gonna flop because they are trying too introduce to much source material at once. Fleshing out FIVE factions is a stretch for a trilogy let alone single movie, especially since the mainline audience really only knows 2 of them. With a much better writing team, I would have a bit more faith, but the one thing Hasbro has been severely lacking lately is quality writing so it's hard to not be skeptical. They are going to bite off more than they can chew, barely explain stuff or rush stuff and stiffle character development.

The Eternals is proof enough that bigger is not always better because you have so many characters you just don't care about. Then again, Guardians of The Galaxies did the opposite and it was amazing. Point being, is writing. Without good writers, it will not work, and seeing the cast size is five different factions, I would bet this movie is going to learn more like the Eternals than Guardians of the Galaxy.

I hope I am wrong because I want good TF media again, but it's hard to not see the major elephant in the room.

I rather have a good fucking movie than a movie making billions and being trash. Sounds like half to users here prefer the second option

I think we would all prefer that, but with the movie-verse track record I can't blame everyone for the skeptism. Bay fucked up hard and the BB movie gave a glimpse of what could be, but still had problems on its own. I would love for this to be the next hit thing, but looking at what has already been presented and similar instances, it's hard not to bring up concerns.

Will this be the next big reboot we have been waiting for? Honestly no, I still think they have some kinks to iron out first, but are heading in the right direction. Do I want this to succeed? Yes, I truly do because TF needs a win right now, they are in their own The Last Jedi era rough patch and have been putting out lack luster media lately so they really need their own Mandalorian for a big win to revitalize interest in this franchise.

If these new sets of movies completely fail, then we may be looking at some serious rough times. If Hasbro doesn't want to commit and take risks before they sure as hell won't if these flop and we will all be in for a bad time with more safer bet and lazy media.

So TFA prowl isn't actually prowl because he's a ninja motorcycle who is gold and black instead of a cop stereotype with a white cop car mode , TF Prime Soundwave is not actually Soundwave because he is a skinny faceless character with a drone alt mode, most modern Dinobots aren't actually the dinobots because they weren't the brain child of Wheel jack and Ratchet and are actually Shockwave based experiments from actual cybertronians. TFA Omega Supereme not Omega Supreme because he's the ark and doesn't have a direct relationship with the constructicons. Etc, etc. While not everything the movies did were good, Ironhide not being a red vehicle or having the southern drawl doesn't then just not make him Ironhide. The skeleton of ironhide is that he is as you said, a loyal solider, with weapons expertise, if we are to go just by the G1 show, comics, and toys. Hes that muscle in that sense, which the movies did, but took in in a slightly different direction, with the British accent, and a black color scheme to make him not be the red truck when we already have a truck, likely to avoid confusion for when little timmy asked to the red one from the movie, you know, the one that turns into the truck. Sideswipe in the movies is this runty (looking) autobot with a high performance car mode, hes just not red.

Of course, some aspects should stay the same, being the relationship transformers may have with each other, like how Ratchet and ironhide with a similar build and height, with the bay movies only loosely having with ironhide and ratchet , wide shoulders, long legs, stubby torso, and being 22 and 20 feet tall (similar height). Things like the alt modes can change, but not to an insane degree, unless its megatron or soundwave , like Optimus is some sort of truck or heavy vehicle, not a jet or a tank, or Ironhide being a heavy set vehicle, like a big van or a truck. And this is mostly for the already mainstream characters, like how Roadbuster became a racecar or how Sentinel Prime was given a truck in animated and a Firetruck in the movies, and now a jet or military vehicle in the comics (at least from what the toyline showed us).

Something tells me that that half of users grew up on other-than-G1 and just enjoys being contrary as a coping mechanism for enduring years and years of their particular non-G1 property always being runner up.

I get it. I was brashly and boldly contrary over the new iteration of a classic IP that I enjoyed, and found a sick joy in thumbing my nose at the legacy fans: Star Trek TNG, Star Trek Discovery, Star Wars Prequels and sequels*, Voltron Legendary Defender, and more.

But for a company like Hasbro/Takara that focuses thier brands identity on G1 versions of Transformers in 75% of ALL non-promotional marketing and merchandising, the random myth and rumor mill speculation in what some Bayverse fans -think- HasTak is doing kinda falls flat.

Case in point: the failed TF TCG - focused solely on G1/Generations and comic characters adapted in G1 homages. No movie. Same for the recent deckbulding game. And even the IPs aimed at younger audiences (Cyberverse, Earthspark, anything not TFPrime) focus on G1 homages.

Because the Unicron Trilogy method of slapping Trademarked names on rando designs didn't succeed as well as other iterations. Omega Supreme, Wing Saber, Rodimus, and dozens of other UT characters are more recognized than mismatched names slapped on the US products and cartoon characters. Takara did better by making those characters new, unique names devoid of Trademark tethers.

Such as The american Bulkhead in energon being called Sprung, or the same japanese name for springer, or how animated bulkhead was called ironhide, or like how scavenger from armada is called devastator, or like how energon ironhide is Roadbuster, etc etc.

Well the first option is not going to happen, so the best you can hope for is atleast a succesful trash heap that gives more money for the franchise as a whole.

But that just means they'll make more garbage. That's exactly how AOE and especially TLK came about.

The only way change can be instigated is if the current methodology fails.

Do you lack an ability to read the room? Serious question, I see you replying to blatant quips and jokes all the time with straight faced seriousness and it happens so much I'm wondering if it's some kind of ironic joke.

To be fair I can very easily see someone making your previous comment (that was apparently meant to be a joke) with absolute seriousness, if you were attempting to be snarky you probably should've done a better job making that obvious, instead of getting angry at someone for taking your statement at face value.

Furthermore "reading the room" in general terms is not really something that should be used when talking about online discussions because.. well, we aren't in the same room. I'm aware it's a figure of speech and you probably used it without thinking but getting annoyed with someone online for not 'reading the room' is... dumb.

Wrong, try to read me again, this time with a little less investment of emotional sort.
