If you purchased IDW comics through Comixology, you can download PDF back ups. Simply log into the desktop version, navigate to My Books (at the top of the page), then Back Ups. Marvel and DC didn't allow for DRM free back ups, but IDW did. So you can get downloading those books to have against a rainy day. I'd start soon as each book takes a while.
This is absolutely good practice anyway, but I will add quickly that generally books which are delisted from comiXology do still remain in your library to read and download DRM-free backups where that's available. e.g. I can still access the IDW Action Man mini-series despite it having been delisted when they let that licence lapse.
Which I am thankful for… I’ve been hit with delisting when Elephantmen switched publishers and IDW lost the rights to Ghostbusters before I could complete my collection…
Yeah, digital books have generally remained available. That seems to be an industry thing, as it’s extended to other ebooks I’ve bought.
I've been doing this as well downloaded about 100-odd issues in cbr form so far, I doubt they'll be completely removed from access as long as you have your comixology account but just for safety measures. Only one I can't download is the Terminator crossover probably because of licensing with Dark Horse, which might also mean it'll stay on the store a while longer. Either way it's making me purchase all the issues I missed on just for the sake of preservation. I would hate to buy MTMTE or any of the other comics digitally twice you know.
I would imagine not, TBH - them being able to sell the book relies on both IDW's Transformers licence and Dark Horse's Terminator licence, and just because Dark Horse still has a Terminator licence doesn't mean any of the involved parties would be allowed to profit off material involving Transformers after that licence has lapsed.
I suppose not but despite Alien and Predator going to Marvel, DC still had their crossover titles available digitally, well they still have the Aliens ones but I suppose because of the original creators suing Disney everything relating to Predator is off the board too.
I have IDW Dr Who comics that I can still read thru Comixology. If you are worried about the Comixology platform ever going away, by all means download the books, but I don't think you need to worry about it right now. Also, they are gonna have Transformers thru the majority of this year
Alright guys help me figure this out... Is it just gone? Like after the merger with Amazon last night it's an awful interface but I cannot find DRM-free backups anyone on the issues I've already downloaded. You know I wouldn't mind so much but I downloaded half of my library and now I can't download the rest of the shit I own (officially)? They say there's meant to be a backup page on Amazon but I can't find it. Wow this is crap so far.
Yeah, it's an absolute mess. I genuinely don't know how to navigate to this page through the user interface, but the correct page is: Amazon Sign-In Once there, you should be able to switch to the "Backups" tab at the top of the comic list, and that's where you can still access them. EDIT: Oh and the Backups tab only appears on the desktop version of the site, it seems, and not the mobile version.
Good news is that works. Thank you. Bad news is, any comics you buy from here on out are unavailable for DRM-free backups. Excellent. Why don't they just take my whole library while they're at it seen as I don't really own anything now.
Question will you still be able to buy the Transformers comics on Amazon Kindle app after 2023 or does this just apply to comixology?
It applies to all digital platforms where you can buy the comics. IDW will no longer have the license to sell them, so you won't be able to buy them.
@Knockout Starscream Two other things worth noting: When a publisher is about to lose a license, they often do a fire sale. Existing print inventory can be sold off after the licence expires, but digital sales stop immediately. December will probably have collections and bundles with steep discounts on Humble Bundle, Comixology, and app store marketplaces like Apple and Google. Dark Horse's Star Wars books were discounted as much as 90% when they lost the comics license a few years ago, though that was at their own digital storefront, which never caught on. Assuming there is a new licensee, there's no telling how much backlist they will print. However, most if not all of the backlist should be available immediately on digital platforms from the new publisher since there's minimal production cost. It's practically free money.
End of the year, so IDW listings will not be purchasable after December 31. As others have stated, download links should remain active after that point, but they'll be hidden from search results unless you are searching your library.
