I suppose it could be worse. At least we lost to another famous 80's property revival.

The Chipmunk movie was pretty good, imho. But it's no Transformers which rocked!

So you are arguing my opinion? Well i'm right, as far as what I believe made the G1 show better than the Bay movie, but EVERYTHING "good" is subjective, so why argue the point? I could find examples of comics writers working on the MArvel, Sunbow shows, but I don't feel like digging up that info. I love Floro Dery work for many reasons...and the G1 show is highly respected among current artists of my generation. In fact my friends at Pixar couldn't stop ragging on the live action film....'cause it sucks.

I'm not disappointed that TF lost to Alvin and the Chipmunks. After the Oscars, I don't think TF losing any award really matters much anymore. And besides, I'm more interested in what's happening for the sequel. :p

Really interesting to see the reactions to critiques, award wins/losses of the movie.

When the movie wins, the judging committee/group is praised, and when the movie loses they are held in contempt.

I guess its to be expected from a fan site purely about TFs.

Frankly, the fact that it didn't win neither an Oscar or a KCA, should be an indicator of something. Not that the movie sucked but its not as great as some of us thought it was. It wasn't chosen by the very selective and older academy nor the younger group of kids. You would think it would either or. If it isn't that sublime masterpiece, it should at least have been that loud popcorn movie that kids eat up.

That $700 million is used to beat anyone over the head when they say the movie didn't do well. It did well from a monetary standpoint, but money isn't everything.

After watching certain individuals and politicians win awards during the last few years, I now agree with my brothers that most award shows are bought and paid for to promote their movie/song/media.

Dery - you should see how he harassess people who don't worship his work :D  In fact his ego is now to the point that he seems to deny that the early Season 1 character animation models of his were simplified from Shōhei Kohara's character models, and he is adamant that he alone came up with the idea of a transforming planet. Examples of Kohara's work and Takara's own pre-Transformers concept art for a transforming planet seen in official publications are merely some sort of conspiracy against him.

Did your Pixar friends rag on the technical aspects of the film? Because there's no reason to quote them as Pixar employees if they're commenting on the film as a story, because in that respect their opinion would then carry the same weight as anybody else who watched the film.

There's a very simple reason for mentioning "friends at Pixar", FFN; it's called bragging.
    Fixed.

It's a funny thing for artists, if they don't speak up for themselves, they usually get taken advantage of. I don't know much about the transforming planet debate, but I will say that I didn't know about Dery until many years after Transformers came out.

LOL. I Know it sounds that way, sorry. In fact I think it makes me sound more like a loser, and I didn't want to say that, but there was a reason. Since I am an artist, most of my friends are professional working artists in television, and film. I think it's relevant because in many people's "professional opinion", the Michael Bay film is technically flawed. Of course, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but to say that the live action film is a technical achievement would be wrong. It doesn't deserve any awards. The Bay people ignored the fandom, ignored the history, and ignored what was working with G1. Instead they egotistically wanted to put their own fingerprints on the minds of new generations. The movie was going to be a blockbuster regardless of who directed it. Mostly because of us, the fandom, that will push it and buy into it, and get everyone else to see it. Now, a good director would have made better decisions, and we might have gotten a good film, with a good story, interesting characters, good designs, at an even pace. Honestly, I thought the movie was just boring, and when the "action" took place, I couldn't tell what was going on. Bay proves that there is way too much nepotism in Hollywood.

    What? :lol

You know while I disagree with your opinion I actually didn't have a problem with your post until this gem popped up (well that and the Pixar namedropping, which is probably a lie anyway) and you reveal yourself to be yet another of these "fans" who seem to have some kind of delusion of grandeur in regards to the fandom.

No it wasn't going to be a blockbuster regardless because of "us".
We would "get everyone else to see it?". Wow. Just wow. And you say you're a professional? With that deluded mindset?

So if this had been a firmly G1 based movie with G1 designs you and "the fans" would have been the reason it did say, over 300 million dollars in box office receipts? Because of the fans! Because the fans would make millions of everyday normal non-TF people go and see the movie! Right?

I can't actually believe we're still seeing people say stuff like this. It's almost as bad as the people who still think the fandom is more important to Hasbro than it's target audience. "They need to make an adult G1 cartoon and toys! It'll give them so much business!"

The fact is the live action movie did so well because it gave the general public an enjoyable, fun action flick, which is exactly what Transformers should have been on the big screen. Fans don't even come into the equation on this.

Now if you'll excuse me I've got to go have lunch with my good professional buddies at Pixar, they hate the TF movie dontcha know? They want to show me their latest talking animal CGI movie. I hear this one has the voice of Bruce Willis. Cool!

And I'm done with this thread. Ta-ta.

It lost because it was basically an adult movie with adult themes unlike Alvin and the Chipmunks which was kid oriented.
