The best news to come out of this is apparently YouTube is now going to fix their broken copyright system to not just outright give a copyright strike when it comes to foreign media. They'll block it from being watched in that country of origin while maintaining the US copyright for the US. However, I haven't read how that will effect monetization because usually if a company in another country blocked that video from being seen in that country, I couldn't monetize it.

He used to have reviews of episodes of the Pokémon anime before they got wiped by ShoPro. Apparently ShoPro found a loophole in YouTube’s (broken to all hell) copyright system that allowed them to issue a takedown on his channel as well as a court order. That’s why he made that video.

Unfortunately, with Mark's semi-victory it's inevitable that those on the other side will choose to escalate as well as a show of power. Obviously, I don't know if these events are truly related but the timing...

These gangster-style takedowns have me imagining these corporate suits saying "That's a nice channel you got there. It'd be a shame if something were to happen to it." but at least gangsters want protection money or give you an unfair deal. Instead, these companies are just flexing their power for no real gain. Coming in like the fun police to shut down hobbies and livelihoods. Are they within their right to do so? Sure, but it doesn't exactly make them look like heroes or anything. I sure hope they're patting themselves on the back because they're the only ones who would want to.

As I keep saying, the Japanese big wigs just have their own ways of doing things. The concept of a global market/fanbase still hasn't really sunk in there, outside of a few forward thinkers.

The only thing they care about is their zero-tolerance policy on free media distribution, unless that's their decision that they've made. It's how they've always done business, and they've got no interest in adapting with the times. Japanese corporations are still hyper-protectionist and isolationist, as a general rule of thumb.
