You're not really supposed to see how low-set the shoulders are. That's what the articulated pauldron flaps are for.

Again, that is actually how pauldrons work in real life.

Oh, no disagreement on that point. The arms are too far from the body. You could also argue that perhaps they're a bit long, but looking at a pic where the hands end up with a human, that's not really the case.

But the G2 figure also has a broad chest, broad shoulders and powerful lower legs, befitting of the powerful leader of the Autobots. All things that I consider to be much, much better than how it's done with the new figure. Especially the arms on the Legacy figure look bad to me with how skinny the upper arms are.

A thing that I didn't properly express in my OP is that the new figure where it is an improvement, doesn't look enough of an improvement. With some minor adjustments like articulation to the ankles, thigh rotation and the head on a balljoint, the original is just as good or better than the new one. To me, a new figure should always be better than the original. Legacy isn't. Some points, perhaps, but not in general.

The back of his legs :lolol

The price of leaders keeps going up, (£45 in 2020, £55 in 2022) and yet we get weird stuff like that.

You look at the hollow parts while I look at the ports to store more accessories.

I mean, the shoulder pads being fixed in place and the legs being a little hollow might be a little drawback, but it still looks like an interestig figure. I personally like this one, it might not be a heavenly experience, but it still works well and I like the little details like the truck\'s cockpit becomin a \"jet-pack\".

A thing that I realised, is that the arms would actually work well for an updated Energon Optimus Prime (In my opinion).

Aside from some paint, I think what the the figure really needs is a NECK.

The transformation is surprisingly involved, didn't think he'd be that complex

I had cancelled this preorder, but the shot of it next to G2 Megatron reminded me that I have that G2 Megatron and these two look great together and I've been a sucker for almost every permutation of the Siege/Earthrise Prime Mold.

    Gimme.

Apologies for tone, but did you completely miss the Titans Return series and their base mode and connectors?

Yes, that is a fair assessment. I generally prefer the more stylized (either movie, video game or IDW) approach of earlier CHUG compared to the slavish G1 (or in this case, G2) of modern CHUG. I think there's a lot more creativity going on there. Certainly these new toys are delivering on their objective - I'm just not huge on what that objective is.

You're both certainly entitled to your opinion - I just feel the complete opposite personally.

I prefer the RTS head, I think it has a light warrior / samurai vibe to it that goes well with the sword. I like the sharp angles of the antennae, compared to the "slightly beefier G1 Optimus head" of this one.

I also think the wheels on the RTS look great - I love the double rear wheels that add chunk and a sense of power to the lower legs. You can barely even see the wheels on the new one and the legs just look like straight rectangular chunks.

    Seconded.

Optimus is popular, but I just like truck-formers! I don't care for this permutation of Optimus, but I dig the truck. The flames on it are stupid, tho. A black version would definitely improve on this lackluster paint scheme.

I'm fine with the art style of the new Laser Prime, but the toy itself still has some ugly details that mess up it's look in key areas. The truck mode's window assembly being visibly wider than the nose/hood of the truck is iffy and the robot mode is very unappealing to look at when it's not doing dynamic poses because it kept the super-short-stomach of the ER Optimus and then added on it very weird placement for his shoulders, that are both too low on the sculpt and have his upper arm pieces coming out of a very weird place that just doesn't look natural.

I still maintain that RTS is the best Laser Op we ever got, and one of, if not the best, sword-weilding figures in TF. He's so dynamic, even in a neutral stance he has this sorta aura of power and agility to him. No stupid or intrusive gimmickry, just good old fashioned articulation. (Even as a kid I hated when an action figure was saddled with a gimmick that hindered movement)

As soon as I saw how the arms work, I cancelled my order for this. Not being able to move the whole shoulder assembly is a dealbreaker for me. I love the original G2 Laser OP mold too much to see this figure as a replacement or stand-in for it.

It feels to me that Legacy is getting divisive reception here. It feels like only a few figures in the line aren’t getting as enough dislikes.

I completely forgot the leaders had base modes, namely because I never picked any up due to local distribution problems (Leaders are strangely hard to find in my area), so fair enough I was wrong on that.
