G2 Optimus: Part of a failed toyline.
Scourge: Part of a massively successful toyline and cartoon.
    Hasbro: Walmart it is.
Closest you're going to get is this guy.

They were going to make a Megatron, but G2 Prime sold like shit so they cancelled it.

You're right. We have to many Bumblebee, and Optimus, and not enought Hot Rod/Rodimus.

The old deluxe Laser Optimus had terrible leg articulation, range wise. With the ER thighs and waist, this will be capable of more dynamic poses.

Honestly legacy looks like a return to The Prime wars days of cost cutting. Nothing from this line looks good to me…

To be fair, even the original Hasbro Black Convoy/Scourge was only available at one retailer. Most uses/homages of that deco from then on have also been exclusive to a store or convention.

And at least G2 hung on a few years, even among an increasingly competitive action figure market at the time.

I still don't like this figures reuse of ER parts. They make his torso seem way too short. Still, I'm getting and looking forward to this figure. The original was a Masterpiece of design for back in the G2 days. Scourge will look great too! I still have a spare Scourge trailer so I'm going to see how well it works for this figure since I don't really like the new one.

Yeah but RID was extended for multiple years longer than it was meant to be, even running concurrently with Armada before being rebranded into Universe 1.0. Which was replaced with Classics, then Universe, then Generations... wait

    RID'S STILL GOING?!

Is feeling indifferent about this figure good enough to purchase?

Maybe having it in hand might move the needle.

I'm fairly certain RID and Universe are meant to be distinct lines; their stories aren't even tied. I wouldn't say Classics spun-off from it either.

Either way, my point remains. When Scourge was released in spring of 2002, the line was already a hit. The character is a major player in the accompanying cartoon. Older collectors were plenty thirsty for a domestic release. Even so, Hasbro only made it available at one store. Further homages have almost always been exclusives as well. It's not any more of a grave fan-angering injustice this time around, inconvenient though it may be.

All I'm saying: the obligatory Legacy Scourge being only at one retailer does have precedent.

Personally, I'm gonna wait until the figure starts becoming more widely available and the 3Ps get their hands on him, and see what accessories, part replacements, or upgrade kits come out. Since it's a wave 1 leader class figure, it'll hopefully be available for quite a while.

I was mostly kidding, but Universe 1.0 did serve the same purpose of reusing old molds and replaced RID.
Yeah but precedent or not it's still not a very good idea. There's precedent for using swirls in gold plastic that causes it to self-distrust as well, I don't think anyone wants that to come back.

If anything it made more sense back then before RID Scourge was a popular character.

I feel like spending $50 on a figure that you are indifferent to is a waste of money personally. Buy what you are actually excited for.

Optimus = name and colors are something kids and collectors are very familiar with

Scourge = a non well known character from almost 20 years ago.

Hmmm which one should be the exclusive? - Hasbro

Can Optimus hold any of the trailer guns in robot mode? None of the screen grabs show him holding them, but it looks like there are a red and a black cannon that might both detach?
