I ordered mine last minute and they already have me a tracking number. It's still in "shipment information received" which means it hasn't made it from ShowZ to the carrier yet.

 

Just got my DS Skywarp, same mis-painted shoulder issue, but the opposite shoulder as yours. Figures...
Other than that it is good, but that's enough to be super frustrating!

 

Sounds good, I was taken aback at there being no information to show. I'll check back in a few days and see if things update.

 

realized I also had extra sprue on the cockpit section right below the head, that was easily trimmed off with a scalpel. Now to (hopefully) find a paint match for this little annoyance, while I wait forever for a replacement part. Still a great figure, and the seeker shelf is complete, AGAIN, but looks fantastic!

 

With all the touch ups, does someone want to start a master list of matched paints? Maybe sticky it to the first post?


Starting with:

TC's head corrected grey to black. Mr.hobby/ Mr.color Cowling Black GNZ-C125.






Side note: I totally just realized TC's head is black and his arms are grey in the show... maybe its an animation error??

 

That's a good idea. I know matching paints can be difficult, but there's a lot of great tips also on clear coats, methods of applying the paint, etc.

And yeah, in the show the head was always black and the forearms gray, as far as I can remember. The shins are what changed sometimes. It ranged from dark gray like the forearms to being black at times.

Anyone have suggestions for Starscream's gray and red, Skywarps purple, and Thundercracker's blue? Those are the main ones.

 

Me too! I didn't jump on preordering right away, but the second they dropped the coupons I did which was the first couple days into December so I thought it would have shipped by now. Another order I bought/paid for this week shipped this morning so that's a bit weird with the shipping time frame!

I'm surprised that it's not common to buy bottles of the paints used by the manufacturers for their figures! I bet they'd sell a lot as a cheap add on!

 

Man, this has to be one of the quickest projects to completion....looking back at the first reveal in June '21 to now fully complete of 3 seekers in Jan. '22, that's some FAST WORK! Now, Takara was pretty quick too with their seeker release so now it's a matter of who can milk their molds the hardest.

I really do hope DS goes in on the coneheads. There would be some substantial re-engineering to make it work using the same base mold, and seeing how DS transforms, it's not as simple as the MP-3/MP-11/MakeToys conversion.

 

Finally got my Skywarp and Thundercracker in. You know, as much as I love the idea of using a unique seeker mold for each seeker...I also love how the different facial expressions give each one a subtle difference here.

 

or how about skywarps main black color? they really should have painted those white bits on his jet mode topside.

 

I use a different mold for different sets of seekers. DS for the big 3, Toy World for the Coneheads and Maketoys for Sun & Acidstorm.

 

After a few more transformations, I have to admit I was a bit harsh when I said the transformation is bad. It does have some clever bits (like the legs), but there are definitely some unintuitive and/or annoying parts (like many parts of the torso). It doesn't help that the instructions are utter trash and the video I wound up watching was... inefficient (showed a really roundabout way of doing the wings, backpack, and arms).

Still, once you figure it out it's... not amazing, but it works. MP-52 has a more fun transformation overall, imo.

 

Hm, I was really looking forward to DS Skywarp. Is he like the most QC riddled of the bunch?

 

Not for me. He has the tightest joints of the three, has the same hardly visible scuff/rub marks that make slightly shinier spots in the paint, and had less but longer sprue bits that cleaned up very nice. I couldn't be happier with mine!

Now... How long do I have to wait for the paint to cure? Couple of days ought to do it, right?

 

The SW i received just had alot of sprue tabs i trimmed off and a loose intake vent. The TC i received also had srpue tabs though not as many. For as fast as these 3 were coming out im left happily surprised by the quality of the ones I own.

 

Would really like to find a close purple for Skywarp.
I only need to paint the small shoulder attachment point that was missed, it could have been worse but it's just enough to bother the hell out of me.

 

A couple of days should do it, also don't ever feed him after midnight.

 

I got Skywarp in today. Another set of seekers complete and didnt take years to do it.
