... about Comicsgate. Actually, that's false. What I learned was of the existence of the movement, and through thorough spamming of google's search function I learned that the usual types have the same overreactive negative chaff posts that they did during the Gamergate fiasco, so I know NOTHING of what Comicsgate actually represents as everything I've tried to pull up repeatedly uses accusations of the usual -isms, -phobics, and alt-right monikers.
I learned how to record phone calls. Never thought it could be so easy to do. I found free call recorder for iphone, this app I can easily record my important calls and I don't need to waste my time on making notes anymore. What could be better, I think it's a must have app for business.
Nat King Cole was the first Black American to host a T.V. show, The Nat King Cole Show, from 1956 to 1957. I've loved his music for a long time now, but I didn't know this until today.
TIL: You can use your PS2 as a computer using a keyboard, mouse and a Linux startup CD The cubes at the PS2 splash intro (when you turn on the console) are actually your saved games; if no memory card is in the PS2 they dissappear
Today I learned... DO NOT BUY BATTERIES FROM A DOLLAR/DISCOUNT STORE.!! (1 AAA leaked in my Roku remote and in the remaining package of two batteries,1 is ticking LMFAO!.!!! )
Joan Jett and Lita Ford were both members of the Runaways in the 70s. I was blown away that I never knew this. Two of the biggest rock stars of the 80s started out together.
TIL there are apparently people aware of Joan Jett and Lita Ford that didn't know who was in The Runaways.
As somebody that has had issues with false accusation my entire life, let me try and say this as gently as I can. I was genuinely surprised that someone could know those rockers without knowing where they came from as I grew up with the Runaways. It wasn't an attack. It wasn't an attempt to put you down. It was legitimate surprise. If I expressed that in a way that bothered you, I genuinely apologize. I do not try to make people feel belittled. That is never my intention unless someone has said something genuinely dumb or counter to scientific knowledge.
I sincerely appreciate your clarification. Growing up in a trailer park in the 80s, it was pretty difficult to get ahold of any music that was something other than what my dad owned (The Doors, Motown, Ben E. King) or that wasn't playing on MTV (Joan Jett, Lita Ford). Consequently, I grew up with them as singles artists and never really backtracked where or when they got their start in the music industry until I watched The Runaways and decided to look into their music. And to be fair to you, I'd probably be just as surprised if someone mentioned they had no idea Ozzy Osbourne had been in Black Sabbath.
Mamie Smith was the first black artist to make vocal blues recordings. The prevailing sentiment in the music industry at the time (early 20's) was that black people wouldn't buy records, but the her success opened the doors for other black artists and started the "classic female blues" period. Unfortunately, that success didn't last. The industry moved on and she was overshadowed by those who came after her. She died broke, and she was buried in an unmarked grave (though she has since been re-interred with a headstone). Makes me think about how many obscure yet important figures in music there must be out there.
Funnily enough, I just had a discussion with somebody at work a couple weeks back about that very subject. He had no idea Ozzy was in Sabbath. Even funnier, he supposedly liked both, just never made the connection.
Been a while since I have seen the movie. Today I learned that Doctor Strange is name-dropped in Spider-Man 2
So thanks to a random article I was exposed last month to the concept of "egirls", which if you are not in the know is a subgenre of cam ho that caters expressly to NEET incel weebs. BECAUSE of that, and seeing recurring face shots of Belle Delphine in any discussions surrounding this phenomenon, I found out that "ahegao" is the term used for the cross-eyed tongue out facial expression that seems to be a requirement for anyone meeting the "egirl" classification. I'm starting to think that Japan is making things up on the fly solely to leak it to Western markets and saying to themselves "Lets see if we can get the weebs to do THIS too!"
