So IDW is losing the Transformers license.

Shame as the MTMTE/Lost Light era comics were the best the franchise had...but at the same time the latest series has just been so woefully dull as everyone from the aforementioned era left.

Hot take. They should have done this six months after Unicron. A decent gap, and then a completely fresh start was desperately needed.

As it was, the IDW reboot felt completely perfunctory and corporately mandated (which it was, it was all Hasbro) and comparisons to the previous IDW were inevitable. The "new" series never really stood a chance in that climate.

Sucks for Beast Wars, the rest I have no attachment to.

I suppose I am a secondary target market to them - I have bought most of it through Comixology in sales and found it ok (first run), but it wasn't really what I wanted from Transformers - something just didn't click with me. Not read the second series, but you have to question the logic of starting something new knowing that time was potentially running out.
Might need to start catching up on GI Joe too, as bought most of the classics issues of that and the continuation of that. Will be interesting to see what happens to that too.

Well I finally did it @nice sideburns. After starting the hunt 4/5 years ago at TFN, I gave in to ebay the other day. Used the Shattered Glass Jetfire cash in a more purposeful way. Counting down the days till that arrives...:)  Might need to order some reprolabels though.

I think this is far lesser a hot take than it might initially seem. This final iteration of IDW has created little in the way of excitement. I sense some people are enjoying it. But only some. It's been the proverbial wounded animal.

I’ve been rewatching Beast Wars lately. Guess which episode was watched last night:

Don't suppose anyone has one of these for sale?

    unirazorclawrm.jpg

Was doing a thorough clean of all my instructions and parts and found his instructions and all four missiles and I have no idea why I didn’t keep him.

So if anyone has one going, doesn't need missiles or anything, let me know.

Whenever I look at that toy I can taste jelly and icecream. Which I haven't eaten for decades. It's why I never bought one when I had the chance, I'd be haunting the dessert aisles. :lol

I'd thought that was the Sun! What darksome days these are. :lol

Wicked photo, Crazy and Devious can't come soon enough.

The new series actually had a very easy job to do: years of "IDW 1" had clearly shown what sells and what doesn't, what characters and stories are popular, and what aren't.
Instead of building from their experience, IDW 2 gave us TWO YEARS of

Only in the last 18 months or so the comic started picking up the pace... incidentally, since the story shifted its focus away from Bumblebee.

Gah, not Meatloaf. Only 74, too. :(

Today is a day of 'maintenance' of just about everything but I believe Terry and some other things are due at least!

IDW losing the licence isn't a surprise - they've run it into the ground. I imagine Hasbro taking more of an editorial intetest, leading to the reboot, didn't help, but the obvious cost cutting (hiring lesser known creators who'd cost less etc) along with IDW's own financial woes really left it on borrowed time. As said upthread, it probably would have been better to do this immediatrey post-Unicron, but I suspect Hasbro wanted a book on the shelves alongside WFC

Ideally I'd like to see it back at Marvel, where they could throw the talent & promotional backing at it, but I suspect it'll end up somewhere smaller like the rumoured Skybound deal. Wherever it goes, I hope we get something interesting & fresh!

It's not just that at all. If they'd just copied what worked before I think readers would have been even more frustrated by the forced reboot.

The problem was the same old IDW house style art mixed with the same colouring, it looked the same, it felt the same, you had the same familiar faces talking about the same old stuff and emphasis on Titans, but it didn't read the same. And even if it had read the same people would have found that frustrating.

And honestly I don't think any artist or writer could have changed that perception as long as it had that IDW logo on the cover.

The sad thing is, this IDW reboot's legacy will be that it will (hopefully) make people appreciate the fresh start at SkyBound, as they'll be comparing it to the reboot and not the much loved Roberts stuff. I guess airgapping is the term.

Well. Glad I didn't get involved in IDW2. A relatively short run of what, 3 years? 2 years? How long as it even been going for?

Today's deskbot is my modded ER Megatron. I know, not a beastie.  But that will we ever get a voyager megatron thread made me go back and get this guy down for the day.

Indeed, sad day. Was an early teen when ‘I’d do anything for love’ was smashing the charts, and inspired me to listen to more of his music…. RIP Meatloaf.

Don’t have a glass building to use, but thought this was reminiscent of ‘Altered Image’ …

Always loved that little ‘mini’ story…..

Terrorsaur is even better now I realised you can peg his gun into his thigh in Robot mode…

IDW losing the license isn’t a surprise sadly, lots of talented artists and creative moved on from that company, and the series just seemed ill suited since the reboot. I loved the early comics, bought every issue and they had a very respectable run with the licence.

To keep it toy related, the MMC figures, the Stealth Bomber Megatron, and a host of others really showed how great the designs were and how much talent they had to work with. They did some great work, and set a good bar after the DW debacle

Am I doing something wrong with Terrorsaur but when pegging the gun into his leg it limits waist rotation to the point of being nonexistent because of how the wings transform?
