Making him a tragic character would be interesting and keep me engaged but unfortunately, everything that's been done in the show makes me believe Disney had a mandate to make Boba a family friendly and marketable character. A tragic ending would not really fit in with that goal.

I'm utterly confused (in a bad way) by this series. Boba repeats that he doesn't want to serve anyone anymore, fair enough, but why become a daimyo/crime lord if he's not going to behave like one? If you don't kill and don't make the hard choices in that role, you are basically just setting yourself up to (a) be ineffectual and (b) put a constant target on your back. How is "no longer serving anyone" tie into becoming a crime lord? I get that he lost his adopted family because of the lawlessness of Tantooine but how is being a 'friendly' crime lord a logical reaction to that?

I thought the flashback scenes were the best because I think they really fleshed out Boba's character and shined his best qualities. The present day scenes just seem nonsensical. He's gotten jerked around by the mayor so many times by now that he looks like Luke Skywalker before he met Obi Wan. There should have been a lot of shoot first, ask questions later stuff going on. Even Fennec points this out and it's like the writers are lampooning their own story as it's being told.

It's really the damnedest thing. Favreau is a Hollywood vet. He's been acting, writing, and directing for decades. TV and film. He's been in the MCU since day 1. He wrote 75% of The Mandalorian. It boggles my mind how much of a misfire this show has been. It falls on him because he's the credited writer for the entire series.

Boba: "I'm taking over Jabba's territory."

Other guys: "What is stopping us from killing you and taking your shit?"

    Boba: "I have a Rancor."

    Other guys: "This guy fucks."

Boba: "I'm going to war, who's coming with me?"

    Other guys: "Nah, we good."

Boba: "Well, will you at least not join them in the fight against me?"

    Other guys: "Huzzah!"

Isn't this area supposed to be full of hardened criminals? Why is everyone asking permission for things?

Old Boba Fett would have semi-replicated the 1989 Joker mafia meeting, except instead of electrocuting a guy, there would have been a disintegration.

Seriously, new Boba is kind of a wuss. The only way out is for a historic amount of tragedy to happen at the end of the series that turns him back to his old ways.

Yeah, that's what I mean. It's clear that's what they're going for, but they are executing it so poorly. Which is weird because Jon Favearu actually appeared on The Sopranos, as himself, where he was writing a movie about the Mafia.

There are moments where Boba is a badass.

We didn't even need the scene where Boba gets his ship back, or at least, it didn't need to be some great heist. Just have Boba and Fennec in the desert, like we saw.

Fennec: "I owe a life debt."

Boba: "Help me settle some scores, and I will consider your debt paid."

    Fennec: "We need a ship."

    Boba: (smirks)

CUT TO: That gorgeous shot of the bikers in the desert when Slave-1 comes down from the heavens and blasts them all to hell.

Similar to "We give you our assassin as tribute...and also we're giving you a rancor in this same scene. Look, the story needs you to have a lot of stuff, so here it is. Laters."

The Slave-1 return is my favorite part of the season up to now.

Can't fault them there. Absolute masterful shots of the ship the entire episode.

To be fair the Rancor was the only peace offering the Twins planned to give, they gave Black Krrsantan away because he just happened to still be alive.

I figured that they left the rancor as it would be a massve PITA to ship back with them.. 'I'm sorry miss and mr Hutt but this airline does not count a rancor as an emotional support animal - you'll have to leave it behind!'

I kinda liked that idea. When I was a kid, I wasn’t into Star Wars but of course I knew of it. I can remember my mom reading to me from a book adaptation of Return of the Jedi, and she explained the Ewoks to me. She said they were her favorites, she loved them growing up, because they become friends to the rebels and cook for them and help them fight the Empire. So I love the little guys and hearing that they become therapists?/emotional support buddies.

I just watched episodes 3 and 4 back to back. I hold the same sentiments regarding the positive and negative opinions most have expressed so far.

I enjoy the show so far well enough despite the various shortcomings I see in it. I'm not so put off by what I criticize of the show to stop watching. I do want to see the season through but if I'm honest, it feels like the show takes one step back for every two steps forward.

I like the idea of Boba Fett being tired of working for idiots who don't maximize their opportunities but at the same time, Boba comes off as too mellow much of the time. Fennec is often counseling Boba and seems like she would be a more appropriate leader. I don't mind a version of the character where he's weary but this Boba Fett is too tired, it seems.

I understand the intention of portraying the character as a thinker but I feel like Boba lacks a sense of quiet menace. I've mentioned it previously but William Munny is what I see as a good blueprint for an "Old Man Boba" but it requires a hard edge beneath the surface for it to work. Whether it's the script or Temura's performance, it's missing in this show.

Agreed they're businessmen, not warlords. Just like the Hutt twins turning around and giving up on Tatooine, it was bad for their profit margins to invest in a losing fight.

The crime bosses are, essentially, just waiting to see who wins to avoid picking the wrong side and facing the wrath of the vengeful victor.

The problem is mostly the script. Temeura would be good if the characterization were closer to William Munny, but they pretty much tossed that right out of the window when he sat on the throne the first time. Munny completely turned his back on his wicked ways, preferring a quiet, honest life. Boba wants to make money and have power, but in a less evil way. It's a really weird setup that requires a much stronger character and actor, and they don't have either here.

Now I wish the show was Boba retiring from bounty hunting and being forced back into action, in a show where the name "Boba Fett" caused as much panic as the name "William Munny" did.

(If anyone hasn't seen "Unforgiven" with Clint Eastwood, do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP.)

EDIT: Now I can't stop thinking about William Munny. Spoilers for "Unforgiven" just in case:

This poor young woman is absolutely terrified just to be talking to William Munny, simply based on what she heard someone else say he did years ago. His partner immediately abandons all claim to the reward they're there for once discovering just how hardcore Munny's past is. And all just based on the reputation the name "William Munny" carries.

None of which has made for a particularly interesting or entertaining show so far.

    Agreed.

I also noticed that it would be said "I'm Boba Fett." Or "He's Boba Fett." as if it's meant to intimidate or evoke menace but no one really seems to care much. The writing and directing confuses me there because they want to pull the "Boba Fett has reputation" card but then they don't follow through. I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish.
