He's got one hand in the shape of basically a mouth and sharp teeth while the other hand or arm is the tail.

 

Actually the tail can separate freeing up the arm kind of like a lance

 

Probably about the same as many other mechs (Transformers or non-TF). In G1, Doublecross' hands were his monster mode's dragon heads.

 

As @nobleboivin said, the tail is removable giving him normal arm/hand -- and even if the tail is on, you can see his hand.

As for his right hand, it isn't just the T'Rex head, it's also a gun. And it's not uncommon for a TF to have a gun hand. (e.g. Shockwave).

 

well the new Jurassic Park Beast Wars Megatron figure makes it look like Megatron has a t rex head for a right hand and the tail as a hand.

Tyrannosaurus Rex means Tyrant King. There you have it.

 

In the cartoon he has a left hand. The cartoon treated the tail as an arm-mounted weapon that he can take off in robot mode. The T-rex head is his right hand.




Kingdom BW Megatron does indeed have a left hand hand, but unlike the Masterpiece toy the tail can't be removed from the arm.

 

As others have noted, in original his t-rex body, Megatron had a regular left hand, which the tail was attatched to.

Him having a dinosaur skull as a claw on on hand and having a tail as a lance on the other suits him just fine and is cool IMO.

I mean, G1 huffer didn’t even have hands, G1 Ironhide didn’t have a head.

It's interesting seeing the breakdown explinations. I always just thought "Purple dinobot. Cool."

 

It's simple. He scanned barney for his alt mode. That's why he love's rubber duckies.

Edit-wait beast wars is the past so no rubber duckies yet so that means tough bad guy megatron owned the rubber duckie and took it with him from the future! So he just loved rubber duckies even before he was a t-rex!

 

A nice bit of symmetry I find is in season 1, it's his right hand that is his beast head, and in season 3, it's his left hand that is his beast head.

 

G1 Ironhide most certainly had a head. It was the seat of the vehicle mode.


Huffer had claw hands, essenitally.

 

There is a hand on his tail arm.

 

Beast Wars Megatron is just weird. Period.

Basically with his left arm/hand which is a tail all he can do is use it to poke someone or whatever and his t rex head hand it must be hard for him to try to eat or whatever alien robots do to relieve themselves

 

The tail hand is not permanent. It's a weapon he can let go of. The figures may not be able to detach the tail piece but the show demonstrated tons of times that he generally went about his day without that thing on his left arm unless he was in battle or had just transformed.

Also it was a missile launcher in addition to being usable as a melee weapon.

BW Megs is no different than Shockwave with his gun hand or Armada Thrust whose hands are made up of his jet mode exhaust nozzles or Doublecross/Twinferno with his dragon head hands, or whatnot.

If we're going to razz a Beast Wars character for their shonky limbs, why not the arachnid bots? Each of Scorponok, Tarantulas, and blackarachnia have pincers for hands which would certainly limit their dexterity. And while Scorponok's are formed from his beast mode pincers, the two spiders have no such excuse. They just got the short end of the limb utility stick.

 

He can remove the tail and at least on episode show he can remove the T-Rex head, granted that only happen once and might have been a weird animation goof.

 

Aside from getting scrapped and losing limbs in combat I don't remember that at all.
