The sword! Realtalk though, this is lookin' great so far, especially the cyber raptor mode! Can't wait to see it continued.
very very niceeeee Thanks for the compliments fellas. I usually don't have a strict plan for these customs, so I am open to suggestions. Feedback is a critcal part of the process, so keep up the input!
This is fantastic. Since Thrustor is based on Toy Dinobot, as far as I'm concerned, you can take whatever liberties you like with the show-accurate "Dinobot" detailing. Cover them fake eyes up with gnarly battle damage or whatever.
That is not a bad idea at all. I think if I essentially removed the fake eyes though, it could look more like the toy model, just with the dinosaur head further recessed. I don't think I could engineer the head to poke out more, so maybe I should paint it in a way that draws attention away from the chest sides and more to the head. We'll see though, I'm not at that part yet.
Here is the next update: Detailing the head Detailing the tail. I think I'm happy with the head, tail just needs a little more refinement The overall appearance I've also started working on the cyborg arms. Unfortunately the plastic here was very difficult for me to carve and I accidentally sliced my thumbs, so I'm going to have to take a break while my cuts heal. I'm going to look into a dremel for this job. Once the cyborg arm and leg are completed, I'm going to return to robot mode and work on the chest detail. After the chest, all that should be left are the legs. I still haven't figured out how to redo the lower shins where the transformation hinges are located.
hahaha, man get the hell out of here Yes, I am distracting you from ma little friend Seriously though, thanks for the compliment!
Hey guys, back with another update. I did the cyborg arms as you can see in the pictures below. As you can see, the leg is actually inverted for transformation This was required to get the correct orientation for the knee armor. Instead of using one piston for the raptor arm, I reinterpreted it as a set of 4 pistons. This way I could still use the ball joint and preserve the durability of the arm. That's all I got for now. I'll need to fine tune some areas, but all that's left sculpt wise are the chest and legs. Legs will definitely be a chore though. Thanks for looking!
Not sure if you still need this, but here’s a picture of Thrustor next to Dinobot. The tail base with the spinner is exactly the same on both, but the part where it splits apart is thicker on Thrustor.
Hi all, I can't believe its been a month since the last update. It feels a lot longer than that. Anyway, this update is on the legs. Inner Right Outer right Inner Left Outer left Yeah this took me awhile... I still need to go back and touch up the details. I was so surprised this actually managed to fit in the dino mode. Say what you will about hollow spaces, but I think they're a godsend lol. Here's how the leg panel sits in dino mode. Looks kinda shit, but comprises have to be made. Also added wiring to the headsculpt Proabably a little too early for this, but here's the group shot I'm inching closer and closer to completion. See you guys again in one year!
Hi all, in this update, I've pretty much finished the legs. My facorite detail on the right leg is that embedded spring As for the left, I really like how the knee assembly turned out From the last update I had the shin panels rotate for transformation, but it looked very ugly, so I changed the transformation so that the shins would fold in on themselves. Again, I apologize for the lack of contrast. I think you get the idea though. Here's where the leg detail ends up on raptor mode: So I think I'm dinally done with the engineering. I'm about 99% on the way to disassembly and paint, I just need to touch up some other details. Going into this project, I thought the head and shoulder almor would be the most difficult parts, but the legs really caught me by surprise. I'm still glad I took my time with the legs though. Also, even with all the modifications, the legs should be able to fully snap in place in alt mode, but it is honestly not worth the effort. Thank you for following this project, and feel free to share any tips and criticisms. I might need some help on disassembly lol.
