No, they're Hasbro ideas with some input from fan votes based on pre-determined options.

Technically, Takara used it before Hasbro did. :p

    Then came Dreamwave...

    And then Hasbro.

I'd say "Decepticons are just sadboi misunderstood and oppressed, fighting against Autobot bigotry and tyranny" is some Raksha-level fanfic bullshit that has become accepted lore for Aligned, IDW, Cyberverse and all future incarnations despite being nothing but bad edgy fanfic nonsense that disregard the clear archetypal nature of the conflict.

It is absolutely canon that in IDW and Aligned, the Decepticon movement was a response to the tyranny of the Senate and the current Primes during the years before Megatron's revolt, and in IDW, we are even shown the results of this going unchecked, had Megatron never existed. You may not like it, but it's not fanfiction.

It is also absolutely canon that in all of these continuities, Optimus left the movement behind or turned against it if he hadn't officially joined, after becoming Prime. It seems to be strongly implied that Optimus had good reasons for this in TFP and CV. IDW Optimus suddenly turns into an asshole at around this time, but so have a number of "liberal cops" when the people who were fighting against oppression realised that non-violence wasn't doing them any good. Megatron did also shoot him. I've always wondered why he shot him, I don't remember it being explicitly explained, but it's also been a long time since I read that part, so if I missed something please feel free to fill me in. In WFC they are all stupid assholes on both sides, but Megatron is a sex pest who was juicing his own people, making him the worst stupid asshole. QED.

However, it's not canon that the Decepticons are sad and misunderstood. Megatron does go off the rails in all of these continuities and in TFP and IDW committed serious atrocities. I'm not really sure what CV Megatron actually did (we had this conversation in a Cyberverse RP where I'm Soundwave and another of my friends is Megatron, and someone asked my Soundwave what the Decepticons were specifically guilty of, and I realised I didn't really know!) But that's one of the few ways in which I think that show actually is written for children, and Megatron X definitely committed atrocities.

If you are going to claim that this came from fanfiction I'd like to know what fanfiction you think it came from. I was not under the impression that you read a lot of fanfiction. I do, however.

I haven't seen this in any of what I've read of James Roberts' fanfiction, but I haven't read all of it, because I'm not that fascinated with mpreg and most of the characters are not at all like they were in IDW; I was actually hoping for more IDW-type stories when I read it.

James Roberts is an interesting case because terms like "cold construct", the character name Rung and Star Saber's characterization all started in his fanfics then became official in IDW ... because he was writing it. Does that even count?

In my opinion, not really -- although I don't like the Star Saber characterisation because it was possible to get manga and anime in the 80s and 90s (I was doing it) and there was no excuse for not learning what the character was before changing it.

I say not really, because I strongly suspect he may have been given the job on the strength of his existing fan works, meaning that someone liked what he was doing to the point where they thought he should be writing the canon.

I have tried to document the list on the wiki when fan ideas ascend.

    Canonizing - Transformers Wiki

    Some fun ones include:

The Powerdashers' character names "Aragon", "Cromar", and "Zetar" were used by Takara-based toylines parallel to Generation 1 in the 1980s before being made official by IDW More than Meets the Eye and Ask Vector Prime Facebook ahead of their 2019 Siege toys from Hasbro.

Questions such as "Where does Optimus Prime's trailer go when he transforms?" were finally addressed with subspace/transwarp storage mechanisms in TFCC text stories ahead of the Transformers Animated cartoon.

Beast Wars fans long extrapolated that semi-organic beast modes were inspired by Pretender and Micromaster technology. The TFCC Classics continuation of the Marvel G1 comic incorporated Powermaster technology for counter-Energon radiation beast modes while Beast Wars: Uprising depicted Maximals and Predacons as the next stage of Micromasters' energy efficiency.

Unfortunately, the 3H BotCon comics of the early 2000s portrayed Tarantulas as literally being affiliated with Unicron even though that doesn't make sense according to the finalised Beast Wars cartoon (writer team inconsistency notwithstanding).

The 2007 Beast Wars Telemocha Series had concept art of a jellyfish, manticore, and triffid, which have never been produced as toys but did receive characterisation in Beast Wars: Uprising as Rage, Manticon, and Flytrap.

The 2014-2019 Transformers Legends manga finally confirmed in Japanese G1 continuity that the G1 Terrorcons were created by the Quintessons, Greatshot is Sixshot with a new name and body, and that G2 Smokescreen is the same character as G1 Smokescreen (by way of Binaltech-based multiple personality disorder).

Barricade sharing a body-type with Prowl floated around as an easy fan art idea for a decade until Hasbro hired Guido Guidi to help design the 2019 Siege Barricade figure.

Some transformers have pocket dimensions where things like trailers go in robot mode. Animated Swindle was (i believe) the first time this was seen

May I ask you feel it doesn’t make sence that Tarantulas may be affiliated with Unicron ........ What exactly a cartoon do you feel makes that unlikely?

In "Other Victories", Tarantulas claims that the Tripredacus Councilors and himself would go on to lead Cybertron in universal conquest with the Autobots and Decepticons aboard the Ark eliminated from history. Unicron's goal is to destroy Cybertron. How are those two concepts compatible?

Various people like to believe Tarantulas is literally a "spawn of Unicron" as offhandedly mentioned by Megatron in "Nemesis Part 1", but given that "Other Voices Part 1" established Unicron as having a fearsome reputation among Cybertronians, it feels too glaring that any of the Predacons would be willing to work with a genuinely satanic individual. Clearly, Megatron was just insulting Tarantulas as an American Christian would insult an opponent as being "the devil" or "a son of a [x]".

well that’s a good example but at the same time doesn’t that depend on what continuity you feel best fits?

Keep in mind I’m ask this not just to argue but you get a bit around in pictured

It’s true that marvel Unicrons Ultimate goal was to destroy Cybertron/Primus....... But that really wasn’t the case for Sunbow Unicron as he admitted to considering sparing Cybertron

Oh believe me I know some of these guys can’t seem to grasp the concept The dialogue itself was extremely vague
Well I find that want to be a bit of a two-way street, considering the possibility that the council and Tarantulas may not even be Cybertronians in origin
I agree with you as far as to say that an insult is as equal a possibility Of a meaning for the dialogue as any other probability

But I wouldn’t say that is clearly the only answer

I always thought that was a fun concept

Aside from the biblical connections I always loved the apocalypse from X-Men and his Original horseman

The 3H stories are meant to continue from the Beast Wars cartoon. That was my point.

I thought that’s what you meant

And I’m aware that my point is just that we can never really tell what G1 was the best backstory for beast wars………So that kind of muddies the waters when you look at the rest of it

The poster you quoted was referencing ideas which were first posited on a forum that predated TFW by a crazed fan screen named Raksha, and the poster then mentioned the ideas being implemented in official canon, which most assuredly meets the criteria of this thread AND wasn't a falsification as you accused it of being.

The term gestalt was used for combiners by fans for many years before Hasbro or IDW ever used it.

I reread my original post and this is as close as i get to accusing anyone of anything:

However, the post I quoted maintained that:

On what planet is this true and accepted lore for Aligned, IDW and Cyberverse? All of these canons make it very clear that while the Decepticons initially had legitimate grievances, their movement went completely off the rails and Megatron's behaviour became increasingly erratic and contradictory. All of them but Cyberverse (which is for kids, and doesn't mention any atrocities on either side) show this leading to a wildly violent rampage through the galaxy.

The Decepticons initially rebelled against Functionist tyranny and bigotry in IDW1 and TFP (Cyberverse and WFC only allude to things that sound a lot like Functionism). Did Raksha invent Functionism?

Not all of the Autobots are Functionists. #notallautobots

In some of these canons, it's not even clear whether 'Autobots' were a thing before Optimus/Orion and Megatron had their major difference of opinion and split off from the group that later became the Decepticons.

Does it really bother you that much for the Decepticons to have initially ever had a point of any kind, despite the fact that a sizable enough portion of the population followed Megatron, enough to actually have a civil war that rampaged through the galaxy, rather than simply being a bunch of nutty fringe scenery-chewing terrorists that shouldn't have taken anything like a million years to eradicate?

This conversation reminds me of the kid I was friends with in school who was from a Christian family and got sent home from Sunday school for asking what about Lucifer's position made 1/3 of the angels decide to go along with it.

Any movement that is serious enough to cause a civil war that lasts for millions of years and has therefore been able to attract a sizable portion of a technologically advanced civilisation ought to have something behind it more than "if it's not nailed down, it's mine; if I can pry it loose, it's not nailed down."

I do read a lot of fanfiction. There are certainly fanfics in which the Decepticons are the good guys and the Autobots are the Designated Villains. But none of them have ever become canon, unless you're counting the several versions of Shattered Glass that exist as canon.
