I think it's subjective if a movie sucked or didn't. I loved Shang Chi, didn't care for Eternal (don't think it sucked but not great). But I will say I feel like TF's designs or these movie designs (depending on how they look) like one of the Maximals would maybe sell better since both Shang Chi and mainly Eternals didn't really have designs that looked interesting or compelling to get.
Oh IDK about that one Shang Chi did fantastic it was the highest gross opening week for Labor Day Weekend and also got Venom 2 pushed up. And I just checked but on Box Office Mojo it's #2 of the year domestic wise. And #9 overall worldwide
Eternals in #6 domestic and #10 worldwide
Maybe pre-COVID maybe but with COVID it's a hit

This is my entire point for ROTB over the MCU toys or G.I Joe.

Eternals and Shang Chi's toys maybe, NWH toys definetly no, especially when they come out with certain characters/pretty much all of the main character

Yeah, I was gonna say, they were definitely financial successes.

True, but neither was a critical failure like, say, TLK. They were both pretty well received, although not amazing.

Huh, so the toyline really is rolling out over a year in advance of the movie's new release date. I mean, makes sense, contracts and all that shiz, but I kind of expected some sort of delay since, y'know, by the time the movie is out the toys will be off shelves and the Studio Series figures will be pretty well the only merch for the movie. Or maybe not, idk how any of this works, all I know is that I am more than happy to receive a fresh supply of plastic crack:scalper
Agreed, at least on Shang Chi. Eternals was ok, just one of those "I've seen it, its fine, and I don't ever need to watch it again" movies.
Well, there's a bit of a gap in the play value, robots that are kickass on their own, but also turn into cars, are pretty hard to beat (no diss to any of Marvel's shit). I don't think the toys really rely too hard on the movies to sell, they already market themselves fairly well without a movie or TV show to support them (like WFC, because the Netflix shows sure as hell were not what made the toys fly off shelves:lol ), the accompanying media is just adding onto that marketability.

Spider man is a different beast entirely. He can move action figures without media same as Transformers.

It’s simple—kids don’t know them. The kids these toys are marketed to have grown up with Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, not low rank characters only fans who read the comics know.

Kids will need some time with the new guys, and it didn’t help the costumes—especially Eternals—make me want to gouge my eyes out. There was nothing that stuck out about their costumes, it was like they came out of a CW show.

If you read that article, their Q4 ends Oct. 2. Eternals was not even part of that.

Regardless, losing money in one quarter doesn't mean there was a net loss for the year. (There might have been, but that reporting doesn't indicate that)

Eternals may not have been a BO success, but that's kind of irrelevant during these times. I'm sure Disney is happy enough with how it performed, even if there was a small net loss.

That means Black Widow and Shang Chi weren't worth money either. And Shang chi was more "successful" than Eternals. Still proving my point.

Eternals and Shang Chi were essentially equal in BO earnings.

Black Widow debuted day and date on D+, severely affecting it's box office.

Plus, we're in a pandemic and people are not going to the theatre as much for any movie (save Spider-Man). The D+ numbers are WAY higher than they had expected though, so those earnings are offsetting the losses to some degree.

the mcu is big enough to not be scared of a lukewarm results.

but yeah ethernals does not have the same appeal as older mcu characters (yet?) and even then back in phase one kids would always wanmt an ironman or hulk toy mora than guys in suits like say thor friends.

I am exited to see what the rotb kidier toy line has to offer

Same, just hope they're decent toys that look decent and with good to decent articulation. Since they're are no Deluxe listings for April.

Spider man broke pre pandemic box office records. Make a good movie, make money. The other 3 suffered because they are realistically mediocre at best.

But back to toys, Marvel legends took a hit with MCU toys this year. I hope all ROTB stuff sells because I want more beast and if the movie and toy line fails Hasbro might think people don't want Beast Wars stuff. Also the movies like them or not have helped the brand more often than its hurt the brand.

Oh, so every other movie for the last 2 years underperformed because they were bad movies. GOTCHA.
