lol I think that's a safe bet. Funny thing is there's a rumor Disney will do a reboot of "Firefly", but you can bet your shawarmas that Whedon won't be involved. I think it also killed all the supporters of "you can't reboot Buffy with Whedon" chants that pop up everytime a Buffy reboot is suggested (I'm not in favor of a reboot myself, but just adding context).

Funny how times have changed. Back when the first Avengers came out, I had friends that did a podcast where they expressed their opinion that future Avengers films would succeed only if Whedon would continue directing them. That sure didn't age well.

Its like the same thing with Kevin Spacey as well. Look him up if you don't know all the crap he's done. And while I love Usual Suspects and American Beauty, they're now tainted because of how shitty of a person he is.

Yeah, no. Whedon is a shit person. I can't forgive or stick by him just because he made a couple of movies, shows, and comics I enjoy. Also, considering I already own those things he's already made his money from me before it came out that he was a piece of shit. I'm not going to toss items I paid good money for just because of Whedon's garbage. That's not going to change anything. Now I certainly wouldn't support anything new he does, but I'm not sure he's got much of a future in the industry in light of what transpired.

What’s funny to me, is that one of the big complaints about the MCU films is that they’re a big machine, with the director largely unimportant. The allegation for a while is Feige is pulling all the strings. When Whedon left, he hinted he wasn’t allowed any artistic freedom.

The reason that’s funny to me is that it has largely insulated Avengers and Age of Ultron from the fallout of Whedon’s career ending. I loved Angel, Buffy, and Firefly, but knowing what I know now about him I can’t bring myself to watch those. But I can watch Avengers all day.

There are rumors that his messy divorce from the MCU was really about how he treated the stars of those movies, particularly Scarlet. There were rumors of Whedon behavior on those movies that sound eerily similar to what has since come out on his other projects. Feige didn’t get the large scale control he has now till a bit later, and it could be as soon as Feige was in position to do so, Whedon was shown the door.

Sounds pretty plausible. What you're alluding to with Scarlet seems similar to what seems confirmed with how he treat Gadot years later.

It's actually really similar to how he treated one of his stars on Angel when she got pregnant. Apparently when ScarJo was pregnant during AoU he acted like an ass among other things.

Man, considering the progressive reputation he built up with those programs early on, no wonder it's a stereotype to some to distrust outspoken male feminists. Such a disappointment in so many ways.

Like, yeah. You don't have to throw out products you enjoyed just because the person/people behind them are terrible, or a specific person involved in it is terrible. I like the Toy Story movies and Buzz Lightyear is a fun character, but I don't particularly care for Tim Allen outside of his role as Buzz. A lot of people like a lot of Disney products and characters, even though the man responsible for a large chunk of it was kind of awful (and his company is kind of scummy besides).

Can't do anything about the work you already spent money on, that's all in the past. Don't have to support anything he does in the future.

Ya know, when you've got people from all the way back in the Buffy years coming out to say what a shit he is? It's tough to believe his version of events is accurate. Patterns of behavior tend to be pretty easy to establish here.

People do awful shit. That's not surprising. What surprises me is the number of people that are so internally broken that when they get called for their shitty behavior they double down on it and project it rather than take it as a learning moment and reflecting a bit on their own faults.

I say this as someone that knows I have my own past mistakes to deal with. But at least I recognize my mistakes as mistakes. Sounds like Joss needs to sack up and face some of his internal demons or he's gonna just continue to destroy himself.

I can't find the articles now because they were from years ago, but he actually pulled the same stunt after Age of Ultron. Among other claims were that all the actors were "primadonnas" and he made claims that they all treated him badly when they weren't getting the screen time they thought they deserved. He particularly had a problem with RDJ renegotiating his contract and going to bat for other actors who weren't making as much money as he was. Supposedly Whedon was upset due to some of the actors getting more money it caused him to have to "rework where certain parts of the budget were going for AoU". Though that last complaint is definitely BS on Whedon's part since most of the deals that were made iirc were deals not on their base but on their back end take or whatever it's called when actors get a certain percentage of the profits. End of the day I think the only primadonna here is Whedon himself.

I’ll also add that it’s a bit rich that the arbiter of feminism is saying that Gal Gadot didn’t understand him properly. I’ll even add that it’s a bit racist to throw in that there was a language barrier in their dispute.

This feels like an attempt to rehabilitate his reputation set up by his agent that went horribly awry. And it went horribly awry because Whedon is an ass and doesn’t understand that he’s in the wrong. On anything.

I’ve often wondered what changed behind the scenes in the MCU. Early on most of the actors wanted out of their contracts desperately. Then things changed and suddenly most of them were more than willing to come back and extend contracts. I’d thought it was related to Pearlman being cut out of the loop. Maybe it was Whedon being shown the door?
