Agreed. In most cases at least.

WfC/Legacy scale Insecticons: Single copies. Represent the originals.

Legends scale Prime Wars Insecticons: Multiple copies. Represent the various clone/copy armies. I think I have 3x these. Probably different release decos.

Random other figures: Mutant clones that became unique. Includes WfC game, Prime.

Those clear plastic wings scare the hell out of me.

As a preemptive measure, I kinda want an immediate mass produced upgrade and swap it out to something more sturdy. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like it would be easy to do.

Why? They aren't load bearing in any way

They stick out, you torque it the wrong way by accident, or maybe a shelf dive, it could snap.

I found Blaster on the shelf at a Kroger, and Eject is made from a very dense clear plastic. it reminds me more of the hard to cut clear plastics larger Gundam figures use for light piping. It isn't that brittle 'crisp' plastic that feels like it will shatter (POTP Jazz plastics). I am hoping Kickbacks wings are similar.

That could apply to any type of plastic in this situation. I'd be more worried about the WFC Datsun mold exploding from a fall, what with the windows and legs

I just can't roll with a dedicated Deluxe figure that looks worse in bug mode than the old Legends figure. The Robot mode too has some easthetical choices that just look bleh to me compared to the previous smaller attempt. Dunno why they didn't just upscale/upgrade that one.

But that is just it. You would be worried with Prowl because it is clear plastic. I'm not a plastic expert, but the clear plastic seems more fragile.

I bought 3 Studio Series Jazz's and they all have cracks.

So when I see thin clear plastic on this Kickback, I'm still concerned about it having less give than any other plastic.

If they use that special non-ABS plastic that can bend and take more stress, I forget the name of it (POM maybe?), there is nothing to worry about.

Boy I hear ya about that clear plastic. I just love smashing my toys with a cinderblock and every other plastic survives except that clear stuff. I swing a 10 pound sledgehammer around the house for exercise and doggone it, everything is 100% fine except that durn clear plastic!

People are having issues with clear plastic. Just look at Studio series Jazz, Just look at the original TF Prime figures.

I’m not making this stuff up.

FWIW, I prefer clear plastic, but it isn’t holding up like it used to, like the original Classics line. Is that the designers fault or manufacturing process, I don’t know?

I am looking at SS Jazz as well as Golden Disk Jackpot. Sometimes I like to pose them so it looks like they're making out, what of it? Haven't seen 1 clear plastic crack in either of them.

I'm not a fan of 'em, either. The longevity of translucent plastic isn't always the best. (Exceptions happen, though.) As for immediate upgrades/replacements? Not going to happen. SS86 Jazz has been out for over a year now, and no one's tackling giving him a new roof, at all. It's either incredibly difficult to do, they don't want to invest in it, or perhaps they know of an upcoming Jazz that we don't. (Like the Buzzworthy versions of Kup and Cliffjumper with solid, opaque plastic instead of fragile, translucent plastic.) Either way, expecting something like that this early in the game is a recipe for a let down.

    They don't have to be.

    BINGO!

Eject is made from very dense plastic and yet mine has stress marks on all of his main joints where the pieces connect. Elbows, knees. We should be able to transform and pose him without those forming because there's really no pressure being applied to those points. They're merely articulated joints and nothing else. If those can stress, I'd imagine Kickback's wings could, too.

I'm 50/50 with you on this one. I've seen plenty of figures fall and were fine, so the first part of your argument is sort of accurate but not quite applicable to all figures. I do agree with the second half, though. This is part of the reason why I kept my Siege versions of these figures, as their translucent plastics are much thicker and I never felt like I did with the Earthrise versions. Why they cut so many corners is beyond me.

I agree. He's very plain in all aspects, IMO. I think it's great that he's animation accurate, but the transformation is so bland and there's barely anything to it. At least with the Legends Class, that's to be expected and can be explained away due to price point and parts count. this is a Deluxe and a pretty sizeable one, by comparison, and he kind of does less than the Legends do...

You don't have to be a plastics expert to know that translucent plastic or metallic/swirly plastic is more fragile. Chemicals are changed during the plastic making process to achieve different results. Something's missing to make plastic translucent, something's added (which breaks up the bonds) for metallic/swirly, and it usually fails over time. Jazz was a shock, though. He was cracking and shattering in the first week.

One of the problems is how tight the hinges are. You have to apply a good amount of pressure to make them move because they tightened the pin connections so much. The worst part (and people can't see it without taking a good look with the right lighting) but the entire roof is cracked, not just the windshield. The rear window piece's hinge pushes up against the roof and applies pressure and it cracks under the paint.

One guy was applying ToyHax/Reprolabels on his and it broke right in his hands. That's not even acceptable in any way, shape, or form.

Ah, yes, come back with sarcasm when someone's pointing out a legitimate worry of theirs because it's "funnier" to be mean to someone than try and understand where they're coming from. So nice. So kind. (That last part's sarcasm in case you were wondering as there's none of either one in your post. You can disagree but you don't have to be mean while doing it.)

You aren't making anything up. Everything you've said is accurate. It's not the designer's fault, it's not the manufacturing process, it's the plastic choices being made.

And you're incredibly lucky, but just because you haven't personally experienced it doesn't mean others have. Instead of being sarcastic and pointing fingers at people and mocking their situation, why don't you be friggin' thankful that you're not in the same boat and just not say anything at all because you're in a good place? People don't seem to get that, they don't seem to get the whole "ooh... it ain't me, I'm glad, I'm just gon' shut up because I don't want it happening to me" thing. Heck, Jackpot's windshield in the promo photos is cracked! People pointed it out weeks ago. So, you can pat yourself on the back for whatever reason, but one day it's going to happen to you and no one's going to want to hear your cries. They'll just laugh at you and say "Welcome to the party, pal. No seat for you, though. You can sit on the stoop in the rain."

This is such a nice figure. I don't need him I got sweeps... Lots of sweeps. Yet here I am considering a full season one G1 deception cast display.

If "clear plastic syndrome" (TM) is such an issue, make a dedicated thread for it and don't fill up every thread with doom & gloom.

As for my "luck" with toys... I have a dedicated toolkit that I pull out for every new acquisition. "Out of the box QC error correction" time varies from a few minutes to days, if it requires glue drying time. But I don't flood threads with "oh no! Ball joints! Will they be so loose i have to fix them?"

Kickback has clear plastic wings. Buy it or don't. No one has a gun to your head. These are children's toys, not life-saving medication.

Only thing I'm not a fan of with this version is the clear chest. Wish it was regular plastic with yellow paint. Oh well.
