I don't like the word slavish. It gives the impression they are taking the easy route by just following what the cartoon did.

While instead FT are simply catering to what the public, including me, want. Masterpiece TF make it finally possible to bring the characters you love from your tv screen to life. I couldn't be happier with their direction and designs. Granted they could throw in some extra parts for toy deco people, but please don't stray away from the cartoon designs.

 

Given the wheel rims are what they are and that there are toys out there with rims that other people like is it worth labouring this any longer?

I don’t remember “dinosaur” guys in the Dinobot threads moaning that a real tyrannosaurus doesn’t have silver arms!

These toys are based on a child’s cartoon and toy line from 35 years ago and that is what they are trying to reproduce. Personally I applaud them for this and wouldn’t want another Jazz that looks like the Jazz released by another company a few years back.

Now scale is a real talking point! Why does the scale chart have the carbots so short!? I wish they were 30% taller, mid chest on Prime.

 

Also, getting a toon look isn’t a short cut, it’s more complex. You gotta hide way more wheels, tail fins, compress car hoods, add some naturalistic curvature to body parts. You can’t just leave half a car hanging off someone’s shins (..usually).

 

Honestly, I'm not seeing a big enough difference to really make me want to replace Downbeat with Jive, but compared to some of FT's other recent offerings Jive isn't too crazy expensive and Jazz is one of my favorites, so I got a pre-order out of FOMO. Given the demand for FT figures and figures of Jazz, I figure whichever one I decide to sell will probably go for more, at minimum, what I paid in the first place so I'm not really losing anything.

 

I understand what you're saying about scale. But I'm not gonna rebuy every car bot, so I accept this scale, and hope they don't veer off from it.

I can honestly say such a concept would have never occurred to me. Of course I don't really understand or appreciate art in any form. Even with Transformers (since that is obviously relevant on this board) I would never consider any of it "art" other than "box art" which has it blatantly in it's name.

I don't remember anyone complaining about silver arms on Grimlock, but I know I've seen plenty of people complaining about his stance and not having his tail in the air like they have determined a real T-Rex would (or their reference point BW Megatron). I figure that is similar at least.

I do remember a lot of people moaning the chrome parts were not painted yellow 

if fantoys are smart the can remind the wheels and do a new paint job to do the toy version then charge an extra 30 bucks

The frontpage mentions (albeit, in Dutch) it might have something to do with the website cookies not working properly. Simply deleting the cookies and reopening the webpage should fix the problem.

I really dislike the translucent blue on the inside of the car roof, i’ll have to paint that white.

also ++ to doing the rims better.

I’m in because overall there is some good sculpt work here, but there is also room for improvement ( though i won’t be buying a second release if that’s where they happen).
