I think it has to do with how little we saw of him in the movie. If he had more presence he would be more popular.

 

Its huge and cheap actually for a third party release. There was also no real alt mode shown in the movie so they didnt have much to go from.

 

Not sure how much this cost after factoring shipping & taxes. For me, BT-01 costs $107 USD (+ $14 USD max to ship to Singapore).
Based on the prototype shots, these are targeted at ThreeZero DLX scale owners, hence i believe alt mode was never a consideration. An easy grab for the price point. Cheers.

 

i do think it's awfully bittersweet how they just missed the boat on this design getting an official alt mode, especially since it's made for threezero scale anyway so why bother engineering any alt mode?

 

I get why people don't like the alt mode.

But, I think this gun form is better than Bayformers Shockwave Cybertronian Tank.

I agree. For Third Party and this size, it is a nice option for modern redesign Shockwave with reasonable price.

 

Yes fair point, but shockwave is a major character and this is pretty close to his G1 appearance so I figured it might be more popular.

I don't care, if they were gonna make a transforming figure, then they should have made up something better. Hasbro's $10 core class figure has a better alt mode.

 

i actually think the alt mode is good. like the g1 gun was just made up nonsense too. This alt mode is a clear homage to that, and i prefer it to say the BMB soundwave alt mode (and definitely to the hasbro SS series voyager soundwave alt mode). I think they did a decent job for design where the budget was limited enough they probably never even designed one in concept stage of the BBM movie. To me its too big, but I may cave because it just looks awesome in bot mode. wish they kept more weathering or had some more details in the thighs but other than the DLX scale thats my lone gripe so far. if it gets discounted i'm jumping in without thinking twice. i mean the retail price is already kinda nice for this scale and content level.

 

Saying it’s better than one of the most heavily derided alt modes in recent memory isn’t saying much. And just cause it’s G1-related doesn’t make it any less nonsensical to me. Anyways, I’m glad for the people who like the alt mode. It does nothing for me personally and I wish they had tried harder since the bot mode looks so good and by all accounts is good.

 

I am curious, is there a way for modern redesign Shockwave with G1 spirit that transform to gun with nice alt mode and good transformation?

I mean, all good MP G1 Style Shockwave out there has to follow strict steps: arms become gun barrel and legs turns into grip.

Morning fellows, I sit in another town waiting for my car to get worked on for maybe half the day (wanted to get home and work on my WJBAOP transform vid).
To look at the possible lack of popularity for this figure, is it more this figure or this character? The first time i saw and more importantly heard shockwave i thought he was so cool. But we never saw him much of him even in g1 right? Same here, even in the recent film he is again not seen much. I think his popularity or lack thereof is relegated to his diehard fans and the lack of his use.
Visually this figure does a great job in bot mode but the lack of a truly dedicated alt mode (no trigger), perhaps endears him less to the casual shockwave fan.

You should check out Cyberfactory's Starscream. So far that appears to be the best figure out of the Bumblebee movie. Great robot and alt-mode. No major crippling QC issues.

 

I have that as well. I feel that this 3P Shockwave is better than Cyberfactory Starscream.

Not very happy with the stippling/spongy effect on Starscream. Since both companies marketed their figs as "3A/ThreeZero quality weathering", Shockwave is better of the 2, not that it is anywhere near to ThreeZero's. Cheers.

Looks at Seige Soundwave, yeah they ALWAYS knock it out of the park with official alt modes.....

 

Idk if it’s any better, it’s just different. Realistically it’s just shockwave laying down with his legs spread eagle. This one just went the G1 route of gun. Hasbro made one almost identical to Prime shockwave

 

BBM movie designs are so good. The right amount of mechanical parts to show off the detail and right amount of G1 parts to still be clearly G1 inspired.

 

At least there’s precedent for walking tank thingies in mecha. At least it resembles some sort of vehicle. Shockwave didn’t even mass shift into a handheld gun in G1 he was literally just a gigantic flying handheld laser gun thingy to me it’s the worst alt mode G1 ever came up with. The awesomeness of the character is what saved it and the cool bot mode design. They could have put in a bit of effort and made something better or at least made something that’s a vehicle of some sort…
