Well, I will give them credit for not copying the comedy but attempting to improve on the drama.

It looks like Will was sent to Bel-Air for his safety, but gangsta homies are on his tail.

Carlton looks like one of those socially ambitious "step on people to reach the top" douchbags.

So I am a bit intrigued about this.

 

This looks great. I love the idea of a TV reboot that changes the genre/format. It'd be great to see more of that.

 

Well, this looks enticing. I mean it pretty much describes the first two episodes at least I think, but that's not really a turn off imho.

It's a shame they felt the need to use the name of the old show, instead of trying to kick this thing off based on it's own merits.

 

My wife saw the trailer and she said that the whole cast of characters look like knock-offs.
 

 

Uncle Phil isn't big enough. How will Will make jokes about his size?


I do hope in the playground fight, some does spin him over their heads.

 

Based on the trailer, I don't see there being any time in the fight for that. But yeah, that would be a nice callback to the original's intro.

They took the story, names, and characters from the old show. Everything about it is Fresh Prince, it’s just not a comedy. It’s not like they took a random drama and slapped the FP names on it.

Will was abandoned by his dad. He got in trouble and was sent across the country for his safety and future. Rich relatives with class dealing with a hood rat. Uncle Phil having his own personal issues that popped up from time to time about how he had humble beginnings, was more radical as a youth, and the internal drama about what it means to be a successful black man. Carlton learning to face the real world after being sheltered.

There’s lots of potential for a good show with a serious tone and it’s the only way the show could live on. You ain’t going to be able to do a Fuller House type of continuation spinoff show without Uncle Phil. He made that show as much as Will did. But I’m biased AF because Fresh Prince was one of my favorite shows as a young kid

Plus, we remember things differently. My daughters have been watching a lot of old sitcoms and stuff with my wife and you’ll see characters like Homer Simpson or Uncle Phil be listed as 250lbs. That’s heavy and not good for you, but pretty common nowadays. For him to be mocked by Will, he’d have to be like 300+ now

 

Mine too. Perspectives can be different.

 

Knowing it won't be a straight comedy then I hope they do the drama good because that was the best part about the original.
