Been working on this guy for a while on & off since finishing Rosie last-year. Had Mac's file-cabinet/office-chair body built a few months ago & dug him out again yesterday to start working on the head & face to give him some long-overdue personality. Just like Rosie, Mac is totally scratch-built from various hardware, kibble, plastics & will have articulated arms, bucket-lip, eyes & head. I was able to get his pupils poseable using a dual magnet setup on both sides of his eye-shells, to help give him some expression. --- - -
Gettin back in-the-groove with The Jetsons "Mac" project after a few-months of set-backs! Bionicle-based arms are finally taking-shape, initially I decided on 2-matching claws for his top-arms & 2 different wrench-arms for the lowers. (Need his top-claws to hold-stuff ) Scratch-built claws open, close & rotate thanks to 3M windshield-sealant inside the forearms. Will beef-up the arms a little afterwards. Drawers will open to reveal something inside. He'll be about 11-inches tall. Instead of 2 different-wrenches for the lower-arms, I decided to go with only one pipe-wrench, and the other as an interchangeable-accessory arm. The jaws on the wrench were made from chopstick-tips, you can actually slide the inner-jaw back & forth to adjust it. The 2 opening top-drawers will hold the 2 pegged arm-accessories, a space-ray-gun & bouquet-of-roses for "Rosie". --
Scratch-made out of various kibble-bits, "Mac" now has his own little death-ray-space-gun, 1 of 2 detachable-accessories that will store-away in his "drawers." ---
Happy to say the "Mac" build has almost finally come to an end! Wrapped-up the final-details on the accessories last-night, Mac now has a plug-in optional space-gun, drill-gun & rose-bouquet for you-know-who! Each accessory fits in the 2-drawers while the 3rd is plugged-into his tool-arm. Time to take-apart & paint! --- - - -
Gotta ask...is that supposed to be one of the tentacles from "Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle" down in the bottom drawer?
More final comparison-shots of Mac & Minimal Johnny-5 before disassembly & paint! J5 is 16" tall & Mac is 12" tall. Pics & video coming after paint & disassembly in a couple weeks. - - -
A little sneak-peek at The Jetsons' "Mac" current paint-job. Like a lot of old-cartoons, there were always errors & inconsistencies, and I found even Mac had 2-different color-schemes that went from green-to-blue somehow..... So what I did here was blend both, with a green base-coat & lightly mist the blue over it here & there. There will probably be a little weathering & rust to top it off with detail after, but he's gettin close..... ---
Such an awesome piece! Everytime I see an update it keeps getting much better. Looking forward to end result!
