I'm a doubledown, now that Im looking at an actual monitor looks like the side hip flaps maybe, the creme mid section and interior legs are unpainted plastic. So right now just like Skids, the outside is painted and the interior bot parts are going to be unpainted with a few exceptions like the blue,some creme detailing and his legs.

it does look all painted on the box though...hmmm

 

Box photography is almost always of the hand-painted sample.

 

The lack of paint on the edges of the clear parts is likely a very good thing. I'm sure they would be very prone to chipping if they were painted.

 

When does it hit the streets?

 

Box looks great. Love that they're really playing in to the length of the train.

 

I\'ll say one thing, I do appreciate the mostly bare plastic.

 

Anyone else thinks this just objectively looks bad? that back pack is horrendous. I\'m VERY forgiving when it comes to back packs (being a beast wars baby, they\'re all but expected for me) but this looks monstrous. The combined mode would have to look pretty amazing for me to consider this one. And if they don\'t show the combined mode until they reveal the last train bot, by then it will be too late to get this at a reasonable price. What are you doing Takara? methinks MPG won\'t last... they will HAVE to do G1 Devastator next if they want to keep this line alive.

 

I sort of do, but at the same time it is relatively cartoon accurate and I believe these pictures show it in its most splayed out position, and that we've seen it more compacted.

 

Yea I had to go back and look at pics of the cartoon version. It looks like he just had a big box on his back. meeeeh not sold. But I hope there are people out there that love this!

 

I don't mind the backpack a bit, it is accurate to the headmasters anime, but this does not look like a premium product but still has the premium pricetag.

 

What does 'objectively looks bad' even mean? Appearance is entirely subjective. Shouki has a butterflied train cab on his back on top of a cape. It's toy and toon accurate. It looks how it's supposed to. You can fold the splayed out parts in so they don't stick out so much. Doesn't mean you have to like it, but it looks great to me, except the lack of paint compared to the prototypes. Excited to see Getsuei!

 

I don't mind the look of the parts on Shouki's back at all, in any configuration we've seen. (And "Objectively looks bad" is a nonsense phrase.)

Surprised to see in box already though, considering the June release date!

 

The train mode looks very good, but fir the price it is not imo MP quality, the moon studio/Zeta will be the superior Raiden, and if Fanstoys or MMC produces this set, either will be my bot mode.

 

I guess you have a point. I just did a quick glance at the cartoon images and i guess i see it? idk. just doesn't do it for me. I'm glad you like it though! I'd be interested to see other combiners down the line so the fact that people like this means I get a chance at something I may like more down the line  

 

yea, it kind of looks like a main line figure. I'm sure the "Masterpiece" part of it will be the engineering and combination, but it definitely doesn't have a "Masterpiece" look, in my opinion. Perhaps the combined mode will have that look. At least, i hope.

I can’t grasp why the backpack is objectively bad? If the back of the legs are bad, I can understand that, but if anything, if people want to be “objective” in some way, Shouki has always been depicted with a massive backpack in his cartoon. The placement and the shape of the backpack if anything is “objectively accurate.” If you don’t like it, that’s understandably subjective.

Also, damn, the face doesn’t look that great in the newest pictures (white background). I hope in person it looks closer to the head on promo pics (grey background)

I think it’s been mentioned before, but I think it stands for Gattai (Combination in Japanese correct me if I’m wrong), Great and Giant (I think?) according to Takara themselves.

 

This figure looks exactly like his Headmaster cartoon drawing. Sure, we can nitpick the design but Takara nailed it. Maybe I’m bias to the Headmaster cartoon but I don’t see anything wrong with the figure or packaging.

Sure, you can argue over price point and I think those are valid points but the design is spot on.
