Guess they think upcharging by $140 over MSRP is a good idea. Is anywhere selling this at the actual non-US retail price?
As for the Getter, I'd wait for Japanese retailers. IIRC, the Gurren Lagann came out cheaper shipped through them.
I was reading HLJ's description for Shin Getter and I'm not sure if this correct or not, but he requires a total of 18 batteries to utilize the LEDs with 3 different types of watch batteries.
Doesn't sound unreasonable. FlameToys Kuro Kara Kuri figures often require (and fortunately include) a similar amount to power all their light-up features.
20 actually. This is Hot Toys Iron Man level of batteries needed for a 9 inch toy. These batteries don't last that long either. I'm thinking should I keep my PO or not.
Ah my mistake, should have scrolled down more on that description. Brain is just waking up this morning. The LEDs will be cool for some pictures and then away with them to prevent internal battery corrosion.
I wish they’d just leave those features out. I never use lights and it just unnecessarily adds to the final price.
I often repeat this sentiment around the boards, but unless they're doing something truly advanced, like with Bandai's timing relays in the recent PG Gundam releases, then LED gimmicks are not there to jack up the price. The price was always going to be high, as a result of poor economy of scale. Throwing in a couple of cents worth of LEDs and plastic in the form of copious, but simple, accessories are "value added" gimmicks, added to make the high price seem more palatable because the final product has more features.
You might be right about that. TE Optimus was pretty cheap and had an LED in the gun. still would rather leave the feature out. It’s still not something I’d use, and I don’t like worrying about wires that might break if installed in moving parts or things like the neck or possible corrosion.
I think in this case since the LEDs are all over the toy itself, the design has to accommodate all those lights and still retain a decent range of articulation in a 9 inch toy somewhat may actually affect the final cost.
This is coming along nicely. As long as they don't rush this out before Chinese New Years, things will be good.
