I dislike those ships because there's no effort put into them at all. These ships would be better if we had actual effort put into the ships.
BA kissing Airazor was fine, but I dislike the ship as it felt rushed.

Good samegender pairs would be Chromedome and Rewind, Arcee and the other green female Autobot

All I remember was people dunking on that one cbr article, as is customary. More of a "laugh at it for 5 minutes then forget" than a freakout.

I'd have people call me CC. Nothing funny about that.

Like I said: Writers should focus on writing good stories instead of trying their best to dilute them by introducing marketing strategies and "representation" for lobby groups loud and powerful enough to pressure companies into doing their bidding.
If writers are told to do that, you'll get gay couples and all that whenever it suits the story.

There's always a bunch of spoiled children who like to pretend that anyone who disagrees with them is against them.
Be a good boy and don't try to engage in adult conversation if you can't talk to anyone who disagrees with you without your entirely narcissistic personality acting up.

Not giving in to nonsensical lobbyism, but instead, making sure to respectfully portray groups that haven't got the power to pressure others into doing their bidding is no more than decent behavior.

I get that it's a reboot, but it's a complete turn-off when everything about the character you know has changed. Arcee in G1 was a kind, mature, motherly, shapshooting girl-bot with feelings for Springer that Barber changed into a crazed, murderous brother of Galvatron. I show up for Transformers because it's the characters I care about, not just their names or what they look like. You can can change their name, but keep the characters who they are. If he wanted this new, radically-different take on Arcee, he should have just made a new character.

I would have preferred more of an exploration of her connection with Hot Rod that we briefly saw in TF:TM.

..it wasn't a ship. It was a reference to the same thing from Beast Wars when Rattrap did it to Rhinox as a joke.

What are you talking about? Is this Old Person Speak for "please don't put gay robots in my cartoon" ?

No. It's rational logic emphasizing the point that as robots, and given the original premise Budiansky had, sexual orientation is (and should be) a non-issue all together in this franchise regardless of how they may appear physically. And that this need for them to have "romantic" relationships is unnecessary. The only reason it's even a thing is that it's attempt to appeal to a wide audience requires relatable aspects that we as humans can understand. Why can't they all just be friends and some have closer bonds of friendship than others. Regardless of their "gender" I personally feel that as a franchise aimed specifically at children, it's unnecessary. Period.

Also, don't be rude in saying stuff like "Old Person Speak". Makes you look like a dick.

...you just literally described "love." It's not always about banging, which isn't something Cybertronians do. It's why the "debate" is so stupid. You're building strawmen that make it about sex and genitals when even the stories that have done "romantic" arcs don't even go there to begin with.

And, as I point out time and again, people only start saying "romance has no place in TF" when it's two bots of the same physical gender. Nobody got this deep in the weeds about Silverbolt/BA or Tigatron/Airazor.

Hell, part of the reason people got mad about BA's joke with Airazor in Kingdom was because they took it as BA's potential attraction to Airazor meaning she couldn't be accurate to the original who was in a relationship with Silverbolt. (Despite Silverbolt not being in the series, or toy line, at the moment) Yet somehow they were able to hold that belief and simultaneously couch it in "TFs shouldn't be romantic!" without their brains splitting in two.

It's hard to laugh off something from CBR when there's people parroting it's complaints in this thread.

The new CEO's name is no laughing matter and I fail to see the point in pressing the issue.

Why does a close friendship have to be "love". I have friends I'm closer to than others, yet I don't feel "love" for them.

My issue isn't whether it's characters of the same or different physical gender. I just don't feel it's necessary period.

As for the bitching about the joke in Kingdom, BW purists can be just as bad as G1 purists.

Romance has no place in stories for children? Tell that to the kids who grew up on stories of Superman and Lois. Or Spider-Man and MJ.

Hell, the old Rankin Bass cartoons told the story of how Santa met his wife.

Complaining about characters expressing love in children's stories is what's making you come off as a grumpy old man.

Romance isn’t the topic. Swap it back to the CEO minus the jokes. Thanks in advance

I wonder what this thread would have looked like had his name been Jim Smith or Steven Erickson.

(I just pulled some names out of my ass and have no idea if they are real people)

I tend to feel that the current generation out there sometimes confuses close friendship with romantic love. Not always but enough - and media and other institutions aren't helping much to delineate the difference to the point that our kids don't understand the difference. My fear is that Chris C will place an emphasis on adding to that confusion.

That's not to say homosexual relationships shouldn't be represented. They absolutely should where it makes sense and feels natural. But rather, they shouldn't be represented in place of normal heterosexual friendships that are more akin to brotherly and sisterly love. And there shouldn't be the pressure on media these days to convert those friendships to "sexual", just because the two people have chemistry and operate well together.

And that's my lone statement on this topic, seeing now the moderator's stance.
