"Winnie the Pooh" among works from 1926 to go public in new year (msn.com) Expect to see new pooh cartoons. Note the disney version is NOT going pd but you know disney does not like this. Bambi also! Ouch! Winnie-the-Pooh, Bambi Enter Public Domain in 2022 | CBR
You know, I used to hate how Disney has continously changed laws just so that their properties go into public domain, but then I watched this video, and it really changed my perspective on it.
In Disney's favor is their Pooh is what everyone thinks of when you think of Pooh. Anyone who tries to make their own verion of Pooh has to come up with their own look. they come anywhere close to Disney's look will get sued.
I have to admit, I do think it would be funny if 10 versions of Shrek 2 would be in the movies at the same time. I guess you'd have to specify the studio who made it to the ticket taker.
Only the original book. The one where Tigger is introduced, etc are not. Except for the fact that much of Disney's work is from public domain (90% of their animated films are public domain fairytales). After a certain point, stuff should be public domain.
yeah the Disney version came later, it falls into the same scenario as the make up for the Universal studios version of Frankenstein's Monster
But pooh did wear a shirt in one of the books just not the one disney version has. But yes bambi and pooh you can't use the disney version. Book version is pd. You can put pooh in any shirt you want just not the disney versions shirt.
If the characters take on a more natural look (real rabbit, real looking bear, etc.), I can see a studio getting away with making a new live-action Winnie The Pooh movie, sans Tigger. Also, the voices would need to take on different tones. But what I really see happening is new books, where Disney really won't have much jurisdiction if the illustrations avoid Disney-esque characters.
