Ended up getting the new Hoth Imperial AT-ST scout walker, three of the Hoth Imperial Snowtroopers battle packs, the Mandalorian Razor Crest microfighter, the Lego City crane truck (looks very nostalgic and I loved construction cranes as a kid), and the Juniors race car (looks like a decent build for such a simple set). Snagged the vintage camera set (fun little build but I wanted an extra one to keep MISB) and the City kids' playground polybag GWP while I was at it.
That is the wrong Avatar for Lego to make sets of. Avatar: The Last Airbender has a loyal fanbase that's still growing more than a decade after the series ended. Meanwhile, Avatar: The Alien Cat Smurfs has exactly one person left in its fanbase: James Cameron.
I went to the Lego Store yesterday with some friends. Picked up a couple Monkie Kid sets. Chang’e Moon Cake Factory is so much fun!
Only one bag left on the UCS AT-AT…I’ve enjoyed the build overall - more than the Star Destroyer (the frame was cool - covering it not so much). Building the main body and neck was fun as was seeing the engineering in the legs (the ankles were a wow moment as they came together). The head leaves a bit to be desired - just fiddly externally and not as cohesive as I’d have hoped at this scale. Speaking of, it simultaneously seems not as large as expected and huge. You put a minifig next to it and it is positively massive, but you don’t have that and suddenly it seems smaller. Solid set.
I havnt jumped on the AT-AT yet but I may pass as the price tag is massive and after building the Falcon last year, I don't think I'm going to enjoy this build as much. The Falcon is just so iconic and had so many great features and unique build aspects. I think I would just not be wow'ed as I was with the Falcon. If it was cheaper maybe.
I understand, but judging by those ATLA product ideas that have reached 10,000 on LEGO Ideas only to not pass the review, it seems that LEGO and Nickelodeon aren’t interested in a new licensing deal.
I'd love to see Lego revisit ATLA after all these years. They could do it so much better this time around, there are many minifig elements that are better suited to the characters. Feels like the only chance of that is if the Netflix live-action series (whenever it comes along) is a big hit.
aside from the really large Millenium Falcon set, which is the best one? The 2 main ones I'm seeing (in the rough scale range I'm looking for) are 75105 and 75257. Is one better than the other?
From what I’ve seen the biggest improvement is the opening panels on the Falcon. The TROS version has larger opening panels, as opposed the TFA’s multiple small panels. I don’t have the TFA version but I have the 2011 versions, which I find to be very similar aside from some updated building techniques and visual design changes. I personally prefer the TROS version. I find the build sturdier and the overall design superior to prior versions.
I thought the Vespa was rumoured to be a $100 set around the size of the Harley Davidson & other Creator Expert vehicles? In which case, this looks like a smaller version... possibly a GWP, which would be fantastic! (Same size as the GWP London Bus, based on the picture.) Definitely 75257, since the improved design means the roof panels have no gaps, unlike the earlier versions.
I put about $170 in VIP points toward it and sold off the lightsaber GWP so in the end this cost me about $530 (not counting the VIP points I accrued from it) which probably makes me a bit more satisfied by it. that said, the build is pretty great in places like I noted. The actual interior spaces look neat and are fun to put together (something nonexistent on the destroyer and fairly limited for the falcon) and the leg engineering beat out the technic frames for the destroyer and falcon for me, but ymmv. As far as UCS sets go, I’ve only got the Falcon, Devastator, and the AT-AT (plus an X-wing from MOC instructions I sourced the parts for), so I can’t really compare beyond that. I’m not sure what else I’d go after - a redo of the AT-ST would be a definite and I might be persuaded by an amazing Death Star, but otherwise I’m pretty set.
Yay! I can't wait to get that set, looks so cool! Haha That bunny mech piloted by the 2 bunnies, lol. Hilarious.
Also sort of depends on what you prefer out of the Falcon's shaping. The earlier versions with the "pie wedge" panels, while a bit gappier, do have a more nicely graduated dome shape to them. The latest version has more solid panels, but are thusly mostly flat, creating a more obvious "pyramidal shape". The Falcons have all been fairly similar after the 2012 edition, so it mostly comes down to minor details. The most differentiated obviously being the Solo variant.
