Geez...2021... Just... Ugh...this year... I remember when I first saw the art style of Transformers Animated, I wasn't a huge fan, but the cartoon won me over shortly after watching it. In fact, Transformers Animated got me really back into Transformers as my interest had dropped during the Unicron Trilogy. It felt like this amazing blend of G1, beast Wars, Beast Machines, Bayverse, and a few other Transformers all rolled into one. And somehow even the toy designers were able to make toys work with the art style for the most part. I honestly wanted to see another season of Animated, I loved the show so much. Rest in peace, Mr. Wyatt, your contribution to many things from Transformers to Teen Titans to Scooby-Doo and on...will not be soon forgotten.
Such a visionary. I wasn't sold on the characters the first time I saw them, but the world he put together was amazing.
I hate to say it, "and there's three." One of my mother's superstitions of when someone important/famous passes away, it happens in threes. Goldner, Orenstein, and now Wyatt. Rest in peace, and my sincere condolences to his family.
Surprised, shocked, saddened to hear this. I didn't know much about Mr. Wyatt beyond his involvement with TF Animated, but I did love that show and wish it ran longer. RIP Mr. Wyatt, and condolences to his loved ones. +-MWG-+
Absolutely. All those wonderful easter eggs sprinkled across Animated could only come from a true fan. Derrick's spark is out but it shone strong while he was with us, and brightened all our lives. We shall remember.
Rest In Peace good sir, you were one of the good ones and loved the fandom as they loved you. Rest now, until all are one.
I suppose you never really expect to hear about someone passing away, but wow this is out of the blue. I remember seeing the promotional art for TFA & really being taken aback by it. It looked absolutely ridiculous to me, and I was sure that the show would be terrible. Of course, it turned out to be a terrific show, and the art style quickly became a favorite (the toys helped a lot.) A tremendous loss for the community.
I did not like TF: Animated I hated the art style, the story direction and the Toys. but I respected and loved the Drive Derrick J Wyatt had for the franchise. I'm genuinely sad that he's gone. RIP Derrick.
DJW was a legend in the animation circle. I loved his take on transformers, scooby doo, and ben 10. All of them were so full of energy and so entertaining putting great twists on classic franchises. I remember meeting Derrick at a Botcon years ago while i was perusing a toy booth. We chatted about our favorite figures and which Tf animated was the best. Even a little about his future ideas for season 4 and beyond. He was incredibly kind. Ill never forget that one website where you could ask him questions in character and he would respond as a tf animated character. So cool! RiP Derrick, youll be missed.
Okay. So here I am sharing a bunch of the art Derrick made back during the heyday of the Transformers RP on Formspring. I was literally just interacting with him two weeks ago, he was still there being mischievous and silly right to the end. Obviously he had a lot of fun heckling our friends who played Animated Straxus and Armada Galvatron. The player who did Galvatron passed away actually about eight years ago this week. I never imagined another parting like this, even if the RP community was down to just a handful of us. I hope this can provide some levity and show that he was a mad, lovable genius who could always make us laugh and smile.
NOOOOOOOOOO I loved Transformers Animated so much when I was a kid. It devastates me to see that the one behind it all passed away. rest in peace..
Wuuuu......I can't believe it. God speed Derrick J. Wyatt. Thank you for giving us a new fresh take on beloved characters. The passion you had for Animated really shows and honestly no one could ever fill that void you now leave. Rest in Peace.
To everyone who was influenced by this amazing man's passion and work...all I ask is that you honor his memory, and continue his legacy. Because this man, Derrick J. Wyatt, deserves to have his memory and legacy honored.
