The number one thing you can do to paint decently is to take your time. Don't rush and slap paint on, cover various areas and then go back to sections you did before and apply more layers. Everything after that, like washes and highlights, is just icing on the cake. I'm no Rembrandt either, but even I was able to pull this off: It's not a Joe, but the point stands.
Amazon got those $10.99 Movie Scarletts out fast. Free shipping and they still arrived yesterday. Finally Scarlett has some back-up help on her squad after a couple quick head-swaps. Gung-Ho is interested. Also got an extra Movie Baroness to be part of Coil Cycle Baroness' Elite Guard. They all had to attend the little event hosted by Cobra Commander to note Major Bludd's latest field op. Must try this again with a better camera.
Used the Jurassic Park Ellie figures. So both elite helpers look like Laura Dern with glasses. That set was finally on sale at Target a couple weeks ago. A couple Ellies and a crapload of old-dude John Hammonds were all they had left. Now there are only John Hammonds left at every Target I visit. The Jurassic Park Ellie figure is too tall and has an incredibly long neck. Nothing looks good on that body and she looks like a WNBA player next to the Joe females. But the heads all have plenty large holes to fit on Classified bodies, plus each Ellie comes with two heads so plenty of custom fodder. The Movie Baroness has a smaller neck peg so I had to wrap it with some medical tape to fill it out. But that took a minute and then the Jurassic heads fit fine on the Movie bodies. She also comes with a nice utility belt that one of the Movie Scarletts ended up wearing. Has a removeable satellite phone and a pouch with a "dino tool" on a long flexible hose. See the Rosario Dawson Scarlett above. That John Hammond will eventually get clearanced out. That white shirt of his seems like a good start for a Chuckles custom.

I think most of the rake classified guys are all pretty terrible looking but the one I absolutely cannot stand is the stupid cobra trooper pistol. It's just so stupid looking and doesn't make any sense at all. I really wanted to replace all of them, but most 3rd party pistols seem to be in the 5 dollar ballpark so its prohibitively expensive when each trooper has two pistols to replace and I wanted to replace all my troopers/infantry and upcoming officers. I ended up finding someone that was selling 1/4 gun stls and just grabbed his p99 one to try and rescale. 1/12 ended up being too small as usual since all the classified/ml/mezco scale weapons are really oversized but after a day of experimenting I finally settled on around 37% reduction to get a size that could still be held and fit into the standard classified holster. Might try to grab some of the guys other designs and see if the same scaling will work as well. Would love to print it in that ABS like resin Grid Iron uses but its so expensive.
Sold by Amazon listings at regular price keep coming in and out of stock. It's been happening for a couple days now. I've had Alley Viper bought out on me twice now while attempting to add him to my cart.
