Ever since We knew Kingdom tracks was coming as well as the eventual road rage, I had the idea of using her as the base for a G1/WFC/CHUG Shatter.
Pretty simple: paint the white sections of Road Rage into black/gunmetal, as well as the car roof/torso in black to add a bit of flair.

I've already disassembled most of RR:

and I'll be posting more pics in the next few days.

Did you remove the flathead pins just by brute force? :bay

And pretty nice idea for the base figure :thumb

Thanks! But no, luckily my uni has a workshop with tools including a soldering iron, so that made the job much easier since the tracks/RR mould has lots of flathead pins.

Some were easier to remove than others though...

I gotta figure out how do I get this back in now.

I would have thought Smokescreen would have been good but Spinister would be great for chopper mode 'Kick!

Update - I've primed and spraypainted most parts now in gunmetal which has run out, but thankfully it was just enough for most/all of them (I might need to check the biceps again).

Now I'm waiting on an order of isopropyl alcohol to remove the paint in the torso/chest/legs area, and then mask and spraypaint the torso & car roof in black, as well as file/sand the back of SS40's head so it fits.

I figured just by itself it might work, but it is my first custom so I'm sure I've still got a lot to learn. I think I might actually have to look into clear coating just to be safe, especially if I'm gonna transform it at least once to see how the car came out.

I'm open to suggestions for specific products/brands/suppliers (preferably in the UK)

If you're able to hunt down some Rustoleum matt clear, that stuff's real good and the can lasts a long time.

Clear coats are always a good thing to seal and protect your paintjob. There are usually three types: mat(t). semi-gloss/satin and gloss. A lot of customizers only use mat because it prevents light reflection on photos but I am not a fan of mattfying clear and metallic parts. Or if you want a glossy paintjob on a nice car alt mode like Road Rage's and Shatter's for example. As you've disassembled her anyway you could clear coat her differently painted parts with different finishes.
I usually use Tamiya spray cans. Maybe a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Agreed, the Tamiya sprays are the best I've used. They are expensive for the amount you get but it definitely shows.

Anyways this sounds like an interesting project. I look forward to seeing more.

Warm the flathead pin back up and then remove it with pliers. Then reassemble by putting the pin back in, through the original piece.

Update 2 - Most of the parts have been spraypainted by now. The only left is basically the torso.

Bad news: I lost the left bicep.
Good news: I 3D printed a replacement. Not a 1:1 recreation but pretty damn close.

Also good news: one of my friends lent me a can of Rustoleum matte clear coat, which I've tried on some small/unnoticeable parts in both colours (the gunmetal wingtips and the black shoulder assembly), and I'm quite happy with it, and I think I'll stick to that for coating.

Right now I'm still trying to figure out how the hell does the isopropyl alcohol stuff work, since I used a spare old broken minicon to test it out but even after almost a day submerged in it the paint won't come off.
