    The movies were garbage.
    Rogue 1 was more satisfying.

The ST made the PT better. Not sure I can call myself a fan any more.

I like them, but that isn't to they aren't flawed.

I love Rise of Skywalker and think this should of been the starting conflict from the get go.

Enough negative stuff has been said about films that I don’t need to say anything more about them. It’s the culture surrounding the films that was really enlightening.

It was the canary in the coal mine in a way, it was the most obvious example of the media and a segment of the fandom taking a position and actively undermining any and all criticism of the films.

you think the plot made no sense? You don’t like the direction they took any of the characters? Well guess what: you’re a bigot and you don’t deserve to have an opinion.

I bet sites like io9 made a ton of ad-revenue off people coming to their site to argue with them, but considering Gawker’s current financial situation it likely had a negative long term effect as people eventually just stopped coming to the site.

the real tragedy is the damage done to communication in various fandoms since as it really hasn’t improved.

It's harder for me to be excited about them 2 years later because nothing seems to be done with that timeline since. It feels like Disney hit a brick wall and doesn't know what to do with everyone's story post "Rise of Skywalker".

Except for "Robot Chicken". Until Disney can throw a comic or novel or something, I am declaring this canon.

Not particularly positive. Especially with an EU built on pretty much nothing but nostalgia.

Something I've started to notice about sequels is that what's worse than a bad sequel is a pointless one. As bad as a sequel can be, it can at least have its own unique value by building on the established setting with new ideas. As bad as the Burton and Schumacer Batman films got, Bruce had a character arc. He was a brooding loner and got revenge for his parents but lost Vicki Vale because he couldn't let go of his inner turmoil, not moving on until he fell in love with Catwoman, only to lose her when she couldn't let go of her turmoil. In the Schumacer films he learned to trust in people enough that he ended that series as essentially a surrogate father. Even the Transformer movies, which should've stopped at the third one, expanded on the setting with new characters and ideas and left things open to new adventures.

Star Wars? I can sum up the ending of Episode 9 and Episode 6 with the same sentence: The evil emperor's defeated, the lieutenant dies redeemed after saving the hero, who celebrates with their friends having settled their identity issues and resolved to follow the noble path as did their mentors and the lieutenant. If the Sequel Trilogy ultimately can't take the Star Wars story beyond where it was originally, then what's the point?

If I'm ever stuck having to watch X3 X-Men United I can now say, "eh, there's worse movies."

It’s incomprehensible to me that Disney isn’t fleshing out the future of SW. I couldn’t care less about the “High Republic.” Ever since ROTJ I just wanted to know where the story went from there. And we’ve gotten precious little.

Thank god Mandalorian came along and Fett to start expanding the world and moving into the future. There is so much you can do with this universe once it burst forth from the repression of the Empire and dogma of the Jedi. The universe should be teaming with adventure, chaos and the force unrestrained. I hope they get their heads out of their assess and continue to build outward and not backward. Bring on Book of Fett.

It is the most lazy writing ever. Luke, Han and Leia never being together is a travesty. I couldn't even watch the last movie.

That’s probably the single best thing about the ST, despite JJ saying it was a mistake. It avoided turning SW into Star Trek’s asinine, cheesy reunion-fests. Let’s put on our toupees and save some f*cking whales.

It seemed to make people love/appreciate the prequels more.

I would absolutely love to watch a "... VS Disney" movie as a follow-up to "The People VS George Lucas".

I'd argue that people were turning around on the Prequels regardless, and that Disney took a spectacularly bad read of the room. "Real deserts!" was awkward as hell when everyone had moved onto prequel memes and Clone Wars.

They are exciting modern cinematic masterpieces, from a visual perspective…but the storytelling, some of the acting and some of the plot points are just uninspired…and in some cases kinda confounding. They are a lot of flash and glam but rather limited in how deeply they involve me on an emotional level. I don’t consider them bad…they just aren’t as good as they could have been. I liked Solo more than any of the other modern SW movies.

The current Star Wars universe ends with the novel Suvivors Quest by Timothy Zahn, everything after that is bad fan fiction or an alternate universe

Without going too far into offsite drama, a ST topic was on FB.
I posted that I ignore their existence and hopes Ashoka rewrites them.

Some person came in and picked a fight with me. Sure, they said they don’t care if I didn’t like the films- but if that’s true do you pick a fight with someone on FB? I mean... how do you call someone a toxic fan when you are the one starting a fight?

    I reported and blocked them.

The movies, their makers, and their fans are lucky I don’t dislike them more than I do.

The first one was pretty promising and looked great but sadly ended up feeling a bit unsatisfying and predictable. The victory has defeated you approach to the returning original trilogy cast works well in opinion as it added some emotional depth to the previously shallow and cheesy return of the Jedi ending as whilst they was complacently celebrating their victory they was unwittingly planting the seeds of their future traumas.

Second one was a step up for me in that it wasn’t afraid to make some pretty bold and unexpected decisions which added some humility, flaws and emotion to a character that had previously been a bit bland in the original trilogy so when they did get their redemption it was a genuine and hard-won victory when it seemed like all had been lost.

It wasn’t a perfect movie as the casino side quest damaged the pace of the movie and felt a little strange against the imminent threat but the themes it introduced of resistance to fascism and those profiteering from it was necessary.

Rise of Skywalker was possibly the worst of all nine movies as it seemed to want to remove every single interesting ambiguity introduced in the last movie and replace it with hallow nostalgia and (toxic) fan pleasing predictability.

Fortunately the mandalorian has salvaged some element of the franchise and showed us all how to do nostalgia well but rise of Skywalker nearly killed the franchise as badly as the prequels to me.
