Reading the description of issue #40 ("will this be the Autobots’ last stand or their greatest hour?!") and seeing the 4-part limited series "War's End" I can't help but wonder if the rumors about IDW losing the Transformers license are true. If they are, it looks like they at least get the chance to wrap up the storyline. Unlike the previous license holder...

War's End is ostensibly about the end of the last war, the War of the Threefold Spark where an alien influenced cybertronian warlord named Exarchon nearly conquered the planet and only a resistance lead by the likes of Megatron, Pyra Magna, Ultra Magnus and others defeated (but not destroyed) them. This is the precipitating event for the Nominus Edict, a policy that put up extreme limits on cybertron's expansion and growth, which is what the Ascenticons eventually formed to fight against before Megatron subverted them into a power grab.

    Spoilers for recent goings on
Exarchon has very recently returned. War's End is probably going to be the capstone to that plotline.

The Autobots last stand stuff is basic comic solicitation boilerplate. "Better read this issue, it's important! "

Now, this is all not to say that the rumors aren't accurate, but given the lead-time of comic development and how the stories were going, unless IDW knew the contract was ending awhile ago, I doubt any of this is related to that.

Well, if they signed a license contract with Hasbro for a certain amount of time, and Hasbro told them way in advance that the contract would not be renewed, it could be enough time for IDW to neatly wrap everything up. But it's all rumours for now, so we really don't know. Time will tell ; )

40 issues of IDW2… that’s half way through the Marvel US comic run, and we’re still waiting for it to actually start. The story can be summed up as “some stuff happens”. There’s no real plot advancement, no sense of progress.

What do you mean? Megatron made his powerplay, took over most of the planet, renamed his faction to the Decepticons, his men (against his orders) killed the leader of Cybertron and the Bots and Cons just had thier first major conflict.

What exactly else do you need for the war to "start?"

Hmmm... I'm prepared for idw 2 to end very abruptly. Given all the people leaving on the company.

To be fair, it’s a comparison to the Marvel run. A lot more happened in the first 40 issues of that.

Oh hey, Beast Wars is gonna keep going. Like 5 issues ago, I'd have been happy, but the series sorta feels like it's stretching itself thin to even et to 12 issues... plus, with IDW apparently losing the license, it feels kind of pointless.

IDW2 is whatever, I won't miss it and it's glacial pace. It took forever to get anywhere, and when it did, those moments lacked any impact. Everything just felt a bit detached, like I was reading someone give me story beats rather than an actual story. I had high hopes for it after IDW1, but I gave that series a lot more issues than I normally give and it did absolutely nothing for me.

This is what all that unnecessary buildup was for? After three years of near-aimless wandering, this is what it all boiled down to?
