ive stopped buying MPs for 3 reason:

1 - QC - the more complex the MPs have gotten, the more I am seeing issues on the ones I've purchased
2 - Cost - i understand its driven by how more complex and more parts there are
3 - Complexity - these are just getting too over-engineered. too many steps and panels

Skids and his mold mates go back to the good old fundamentals of MP. Hands down they are so well built but excellent in price. Still, I think it’s the more gimmicks an MP has, the more problems it may get. Overall, Arcee, Thundercracker, and Tigatron have given me no problems at all.

As for my Hound, got him new for 9500 yen and still no cracks developed. So thankfully, good copies do exist. I love the complicated transformations, but they need durability like MP-36 and MP-39 to maintain the toon look many want and the more complex engineering while still being as fun to transform as they’ve ever been.

Still, after what @lord ginrai said, those are the reasons we love MP. I like both the old and new styles. I’m not picky and as long as they are durable, I’m a happy camper.

    1. Cheap? :lol
    2. Hollow? It depends if it is due to the transformation. Also, MPs do agreat job at covering up the hollow parts(MP-45 should have used the smoke blue plastic instead of clear.

Aaaaaad yup. My MP-47 does have them micro cracks (Dangit..............when is a re-issue coming? IH got a re-issue!):mad

I’ve been collecting the Masterpiece line since day one and honestly it doesn’t have any more QC issues than any other line. It’s more noticeable because there are fewer figures released in a year compared to the mainlines.

The question you’ve asked is no different than asking why WFC collectors continue to buy from that line after Grapple’s broken peg issue or Galvatron’s misassembled shoulders.

I continue to collect the line because it’s bringing me what I’ve really wanted in Transformers toys since 1984. I’m also a huge fan of the brilliant engineering that the MP team puts into these figures.

The majority of MP releases have been amazing, solid figures and the line has continued to improve in ways that appeal to what I’m looking for. The price is worth it, in my opinion.

And as others have said, the material defect that Hound fell victim to isn’t a common occurrence. Hound was a unique case and I suspect that making a correction and reissuing the figure was made difficult due to the pandemic hitting right during his release.

Masterpiece isn’t for everyone, but it’s what I’m looking for and where I choose to put my hobby money. The positives far outweigh any quality issues I’ve personally had experienced in my figures, which have been few.

Before the flood, I was a flithy CHUG collector. Loved it.

But now I'm selling all my CHUG and only collecting toon TT MPs.

Mainly bc I....just can't....quit this hobby and toon MPs come out infrequently enough to keep me interested.

Great question, I was waiting on an MP-44 reissue as well after missing the boat the first time around, yet here we are now and neither have been reissued. I finally settled for paying the late tax on MP-44 but Hound's problems are seem so much inherent I really want to see a new round before getting a replacement.

Closing this thread for now since it’s been a few years since MP-47 Hound was released with no new updates since.

Will either reopen or make a new thread when a rerelease or repaint/retool is announced.

A thread was made a few years back to track qc issues with Hound, so if you got a Hound recently and wanted to post your feedback about it and/or read about other’s experience with it, this thread may help:
    MP 47 Hound QC poll

I didn’t see a review for MP-47 Hound in the Feedback reviews forum. If someone decides to take the time to make a review, they can start the thread for it in that forum so long as it’s posted in its entirety:
