The use of deja vu looked cool. It could have gone badly, but they used it with enough skill to make it interesting IMO.

You joke, but the supposed plot leak going around is that
The film sort of takes place in an alternate universe, Neo works for a software company and the original Matrix trilogy was a videogame series but then the blue haired chick appears and shows Neo it is all real and she is the TRUE & HONEST Chosen one, ala Terminator Dark Fate.

That's definitely in line with the themes of the original trilogy.

It has been circulating for a while. The only reason I am posting it now is hints are starting to drop it may be true.

Thankfully, I doubt Lana W will have Trinity be anywhere near as obnoxious as Linda Hamilton was in Dark Fate. Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween Kills is how Sarah Connor *should've* been.

I wouldn't mind. Carrie-Anne Moss is a better actor anyway.

Based on some things in the newest trailer
such as the Merovingian's very different look
and things we already know about Morpheus, some things we've seen in the first trailer, and that recent interview that said
Smith was back but in a way that will surprise people and that "chooses love" over hate
I am going to reiterate my prediction that some people are going to find this film frustrating. Especially those who want a very straightforward continuation of the original trilogy of films.

I have a feeling it's going to be dealing with the idea of different versions of self and what that means and how someone can have multiple versions of themselves over time and in different iterations, while still being the same person.

Which of course makes perfect sense if you know about the origins of the original film and what they had originally planned to do with it, and what Lana Wachowski has said about the initial germ of the idea for this new movie being
born of dealing with grief over a personal loss and how to reconcile that with oneself.
Putting that together with the title "Resurrections" IMHO points towards, like I said before, a very meta story that is more about the concepts it's trying to convey than the literal narrative itself potentially.

Not that there won't be a plot throughline that people can easily follow. Obviously it's still a character driven narrative action film. But I think it's using that template in a way not everyone will find satisfying if they're going into it just basically wanting familiar characters and what happens next to them and AI vs humanity, etc. Which honestly given the direction they were already going in with Revolutions shouldn't surprise anyone probably.

I'm super down for that myself. :lol  That's the kind of thing I'm into and exactly what I want a Matrix film to be about. But I still have a feeling a lot of people are going to be frustrated by it. And that others will simply dismiss it as pretentious.

Well, that's how they've been ruining franchises over the last few years. So why not ruin this one as well?

Honestly, I don't know that that would ruin the franchise. It's not like Trinity was a crap character to begin with. Now, if they shoe-horn in a girl power moment for no discernable reason, THAT could ruin the franchise, but I will be curious to see if they play with that possibility.

This movie is going to piss off so many people, I have a feeling. It may actually be a "four quadrant" irritant. It's not going to be what people want, it's going to have too many references to the other movies, it's going to have "messages" people aren't going to like, it's going to be unnecessary, it's going to try too hard to be it's own thing...

I'll never personally understand why anyone takes issue with or is surprised by artistic works, even big budget Hollywood works, intentionally trying to convey messaging or meaning relevant to their creators. That's kind of the whole point of art, at least for many artists.

Star Wars and all the tropes now associated therewith was born of an anti-war and anti-imperialist mentality fused with a critique of inter-generational conflict and a failure to learn valuable lessons at a society-wide scale, told through interpersonal microcosms thereof using the typical Hero's Journey structure.

The Matrix originally began life as a trans allegory (for obvious reasons which demonstrate how personal these films are to their creators, irrespective of how much of a phenomenon they've become.)

So it shouldn't surprise anyone when one of its two principle creators seeks to actually say something through the cinematic medium in a sequel that plays with the meta idea of repetition and different facets of identity, given that they previously resisted making one for decades (despite numerous huge offers of ridiculous budgets to do so) precisely on the basis of not wanting to repeat themselves.

But yes, I do think it will frustrate some people. As art is oft inclined (and even intended) to do. And as I said, I think a good portion who aren't frustrated will simply dismiss it as pretentious.

You know to keep the computer theme going, I kind of wish the movie was called "Matrix: Reimaged".

People who want that should just rewatch the original trilogy and maybe stop going to new movies altogether.
