I for one love it when all the armchair MBAs start prognosticating on what Hasbro \"should\" be doing with the case pack distribution these days.

Agreed, it’d be nice to have him before Christmas but being in the UK I don’t think it’s meant to be unless one of our locals get import stock like they did for Tigatron.

Sounds like either someone who didn't know what they were doing at the time doing online product descriptions or it was a change they never really committed to. Worth a mention on the Toys page but it's nowhere on the character page so it wasn't a serious thing they attempted to do with him.

Sometimes things happen with toys and not in fiction, and they're not any less valid.

It's like people wringing their hands about some of the more recent name changes (Slug comes to mind) when it literally doesn't matter what's on the box because if you are really that desperate you can crack'er open and call it whatever you want. Canon be damned.

That's honestly just TFwiki making an assumption about the shared name (less of a name, more of a title). There is no actual proof that Hasbro ever retconned Shadow Panther and Ravage as the same character. What there is proof of is that Hasbro retconned them both as being spies for the Tripredacus Council.

If I'm reading the Wiki correctly:
    • The name Tripredacus Agent is a direct reference to the Beast Wars TV show, namely the trilogy of Agenda episodes, which featured Ravage, as an Agent of the Tripredacus Council
    • These episodes first aired in 1998
    • Shadow Panther was sold in the US under the name of Tripredacus Agent in 2000
    • The Walmart Exclusive Tripdredacus Agent (TM2 Cheetor redeco) was released in 2001, meaning the Shadow Panther figure was the first to use the name the year earlier
    • Hasbro couldn't use the name Ravage at the time due to trademark reasons, so used Tripredacus Agent instead
Shadow Panther is, in at least one instance, Ravage. There's plenty of meat on the bones of his history to make that conclusion.

Yup. Tripredacus Agent is the "This name is unavailable" equivilent for Ravage, before they got Battle Ravage in Energon

Shadow Panther was released for a while as himself, then they chagned it up so he was now Tripredacus Agent, to the point the TM2 figure's bio contains a line saying he's had other aliases through the war (Heavily implying the connection again). No one has ever followed up on that and its just a neat little footnote, he's very much his own character these days who's distinct from Ravage.

Let's also not forget that Japan retconned seperate character (And Maximal) Panther into being Ravage as well. Ravage just sort of, assimilates other panther characters

The Wiki also has this on their Trademark page:

"Ravage" became unavailable during Beast Wars, so Hasbro used the alternative "Shadow Panther" instead, and when even that turned out to be off-limits, used the somewhat clunky name "Tripredacus Agent".

So much meat, it's a BBQ.

That source book has Ravage and Shadow Panther as 2 separate characters
