Hey, folks. Got a quick questions I wanna field real quick, cause i'm on the verge of possibly switching something out. After, fuck, a year of just sitting next to my desk unopened, finally got my SOC GaoGaiGar open. Transformation was a mess but aside from that, he's alright, he's fun, but as a whole I think my hype for him was greater than the result. Seeing the Pose+ though... not a fan of every stylistic change, but seeing it in action has me possibly having second thoughts on the former. So for anyone with both SOC and Pose+ GaoGaiGar, who's your winner been as of late? Definitely something I gotta sleep on in my end and take some time to think about, but I figured i'd get some extra opinions while I can.
I do own both but I'm afraid my opinion won't help you much. I think I like them both equally for different reasons : - The SOC has great accuracy, both in the look and transformation departments. Most of the parts move and connect just like in the anime transformation sequence and I really like this approach. - The Pose+ completely ditched that approach (which makes sense since they didn't went for look/design accuracy either) but the end result is definitly more dynamic, more poseable, once combined, I'd say it feels way more like a huge action figure than the SOC do. If I had to keep only one, I think it would be the SOC but that's only because I'm a sucker for accuracy (and the fact I own all the addons for this one). If I didn't know anything about GGG and just wanted to keep the toy that "felt better to handle", I think I would have went with P+.
anyone has this issues? i close the helmet and it always has this gap. i look for some review on youtube and saw similar issues. I think there is something block the helmet but not sure
I have both figures. I got the Pose+ not very long ago and got the SOC at the original release date, so there's probably recency bias toward the Pose+. I'm someone who typically values show-accuracy a lot, and there's no question the SOC is much more show accurate while the Pose+ is very much a stylized take on Gaogaigar. However, in both pictures and in-person, the Pose+ somehow evokes what I saw in the show more than the SOC. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it just looks more like what I remember from watching the show despite it being a stylized version of it. Maybe it's the much better paint job or because its stylized angles look more in line with the robot in action during the show, but it just looks better to me and totally comes across as a proper Gaigaigar. The SOC does have a show accurate Final Fusion sequence, which is important. I think the old Takara DX is an awesome toy because it has such an accurate Final Fusion sequence. Pose+, on the other hand, also has a stylized Final Fusion sequence and in this respect I definitely prefer the SOC. As for which one to get, I think both have a place in your collection if you love Gaogaigar and have the funds to support it. If you can only choose one or the other, in absolute terms, I think the Pose+ is the superior figure (as it should be, since it's more expensive and much more recent). But if you really want absolute show accuracy in both the design and transformation, SOC would be the choice. I will be keeping both of them, but for me, if I had to choose only one, I would choose the Pose+ because for me it better evokes what Gaogaigar looks like in my mind, and is the superior figure outright, even if I have to sacrifice the show accurate Final Fusion.
I agree. I don't own the SOC, and waiting for Pose+ to arrive (hopefully next week). But I got to say, IMO the Pose+ version is more intimidating and feels more bulked like certain scenes from the Anime. The SOC just lacks something... maybe the face mask and the liner gao's color is a bit plasticky (based on screenshot only). All in all, I opted for the Pose+ one even though the transformation may not be accurate, but let's be real, who poses their GGG in individual mode? (unless you have two of each version...). I'm happy that it can be combined and most importantly it looks BADASS!!!
I order from one of the biggest hobby shop in Taobao. I've try to cancel my order to buy from other shop but I will lose the deposit 100USD edit: damn right after this talk the shop have him in stock now
Wait, so you ordered from multiple Taobao stores??? or just one? That's stupid that they couldn't supply you the product especially you pre-ordered back in Feb. Pretty sure you can file for a refund from Taobao, especially if they couldn't hold their end of the bargain - i.e. to provide you with the product. Did they give you an ETA of when they'll have stocks?
ha just learned that you also order from taobao from a few page back, what store you order from, mine is 首页-一诺动漫模型-淘宝网
Completely unrelated to everything you said @GX9901DoubleX , but it's driving me nuts how you don't have the shoulders on the SOC lifted up to improve GGG's shoulder line. You make the toy look SO much better as a result.
Got mine from a Taobao store called 奇奇酷咔 I mainly use the iOS App to purchase, so not sure how to post the link. But that’s the store name.
Haha! I’ll give that a try. I think mine has been in the same pose high above my living room TV for like most of the past 8 years? (Or however long ago it was released)
Got my GGG in and I pretty much second what GX9901DoubleX says o0n first impression. I'll likely have my own thoughts after a few days with him.
Yeah I think his take is pretty good. I'm waiting on mine... sitting at Fedex in California But yeah, just from his images alone you can see how much more dynamic the Pose+ is versus the original. It gives me hope that they manage to pull some magic tricks and allow him that level of poseability with the goldion hammer. I know the SOC gets very limited once he's attached. Same with the Star Gaogaigar upgrade.
just got my gaogaigar. It looks as great as the photos. Gotta say though, it's a little scary handling him. There's just so many paint apps and moving parts that clash (the toy even comes with that insert calling out all the possible spots for paint coming off). Plus, he's got a lot of tight joints which is great! but also, makes me want to be real careful while trying to actually move him because of the force of it all. haha I worry about the lion main parts from stealth gao and how they connect to the chest and the how that's going to hold up in the future!
