Also this patent is incredibly stupid. Let’s compromise the toys to secure them to the packaging instead of doing what we used to do and simply package the thing better.

I give this almost exactly 4 hours from appearing in a shop for a workaround to be found.

Cool, so when does hasbro patent a way to actually get new product on shelves?

But what if the figure is stolen BEFORE it gets packaged?

Why doesn\'t Hasbro just use that anti-tamper \'VOID\' tape that you get on phone/consoles packaging? Also not giving the Studio Series boxes a cloaca would go a very long way.

I wonder what is wrong in the heads of people who return used figures for store credit.

I already saw one user on here who does this with the toys of his kid, to just buy new figures, after the old ones are beaten up.

But we all should keep in mind, only because there is a patent on it dosn't mean it's going to be used.

oh noes the world is ending everyone is setting their transformers toys on fire in protest of hasbro's latest idea oh the humanity

The Speed Stars Stealth Force vehicles were secured with two plastic locks each that were pluged into the underside of the vehicle.

I vote we go back to Styrofoam and G1 packaging and die cast metal. But place an RFID in the bots which if not remotely disabled before removal from packaging delivers an electric shock through the die cast. J/K

The simple explanation is Hasbro is trying to have their cake and eat it too, several times over.

-producing plastic toys,(a luxury item) many of which will be disposed of as trash, causing pollution, for profit

-reducing plastic in packaging to lessen the polluting impact of producing these toys

-toys with windowless open packing are getting stolen and hurting profits,(at least for retailiers, but that can affect retailers' desire to order more toys) so integrate a packing lock into the toys to attempt to reduce theft & fraud

-Now the toys are shittier from their built-in locks, and probably marginally increasing toys that get thrown away and becoming pollution

See the fallacy? Each reaction to improve on one factor drags down the other factor. Jack of all trades, master of none.

    Let's see.....

1 - We add more complexity to the design phase.

2 - We add to th parts count for the fig.

3 - we add to the manufacturing labor for the fig.

From this info, I only see one probable outcome:
    Another price increase.
Pass the cost of theft onto the rest of us.

And swappers will still find a workaround.
The same one they've been using all along.
    The store employee.
The one who's to busy to throughly examine the return.
The one who just accepts the customer explanation.
The one who just returns the swapped fig to the shelf.

The swappers will find a way around this.
    We're giving the advance notice.
    How can they not.

I really don't see this working all that well.

This isn’t going to stop people from taking heads off of figures (a la Lebron James Space Jam).

So the Idea is once you remove the toy you can't put it back securely. If it rattles the retailer knows it's been opened.

1st, This is giving retail staff too much credit to carefully inspect the returned goods.

2nd, if the windowless box is unaltered, couldn't they just tape a filler toy down?

My best idea for a solution would be you lose the side flaps and glue them down solid. How do you get the toy out? Perforate the front face. That's right, destroying the outer box is the only way to get the toy out.

I'm sure this has issues, but the point is to screw over swappers.

Normal package theft is probably more of a problem for Hasbro themselves and I'm guessing that the lebron head fiasco may have been the ultimate tipping point for the executive sitting on this idea

    Hey guys?

Mattel has been doing this for years with their large Jurassic World figures and vehicles.

It. Isn't. That. Big. A. Deal.

Interesting. I'll have to look up a Jurassic World unboxing video to see how it works.

Basically there is a plastic peg that goes through the bottom of the foot or the bottom of the car that goes through the package and connects to a plastic disc. When you open the figure you have to get to this disc and turn it, snapping it from the peg and freeing the figure. The only sign the peg was there is a small hole in the bottom of the foot
