Should have answered this one last night, my bad.. Target has a small, decent inventory of kits now in store. The only ones I've seen: Entry Grade RX-78-2 *they had the American color version too last night. HGUC Rx-78-2 Revive HGUC Char's Zaku II HGAC Wing Zero HGAC Heavyarms HGCE Strike Freedom IBO HG Barbatos IBO HG Barbatos Lupus Rex RG Exia My clusterduck from last night was the first time I had seen any of the Breaker HGs at my local store. They also got the next wave of G-Frame kits, with the Blue Destiny and GM Commando. They have a few things listed on their website through their Marketplace option but they've since narrowed down what they have available * sold by Target* to basically what they have on store shelves.
Yeah mine only really had the HG RX-78, Char’s Zaku, and Strike Freedom. I bought the Universe Unicorn once and loved it, but let it go. I was very tempted by Char’s Zaku but I’m not sure how well it compares to the HG, which is the same price. The little G-Frame kits were kind of temping too.
Latest kit: I can also add to this: HGGB Livelance Heaven HGGB Gundam Helios HGGB Barbataurus HGGB Perfect Strike Freedom
That's what I said! If you watch battlogue on youtube, this bot was in the first set of enemies along with a gundam 00 and zaku variant that I would buy in a heart beat. My understanding is it was a set of contest winners that were included in battlogue and an upcoming gundam game. I took a screenshot as best I could of them.
So, when I read this the first time I thought you meant this was some sort of color variant. But then I went to a second Target, and found this. I laughed so hard at this, thinking it was so stupid, but the good kind of stupid, and for $10, I had to get him. The build was super simple, the plastic felt great, the figure is nice all around. I know it’s “Entry-Grade”, but I really like it. I just wish the skirt armor wasn’t one single piece. Looks perfect with 30MM. All in all, for my first ever RX-78-2, it’s pretty good.
Just so you know, there are people legitimately angry over in Japan they actually can't buy that kit (I have one myself) due to it being a Target exclusive. The reddit occasionally has people lament this. Its actual existence is attributed to a statue that's seen in the opening of the Breakers Battleogue, where it's a centerpiece of the tournament finals. The Entry Grade is remarkable at how much it does for so little - having built the regular 'Revive' RX-78-2 (there's like THREE of these in HGUC, I also own the previous "v.30th" in the Forever Gundam variant), the Entry Grade manages to come extremely close despite having what I can only describe as a "layered" build.
I can genuine understand why. I have personally never liked the normal RX-78 colors, but this thing really does it for me. I mean I am genuinely falling in love with it. After having built a 30MM, I was actually surpised at how similar they are. I knew from some reviews that 30MM is compatible with some other gunpla, but the construction is similar. 30MM is better though. I moved my little “diorama” to my nightstand so I can fiddle with them more commonly. But man, am I really loving it. For $10, I’m tempted to get and pick up extras. EDIT: So I do have one question. Since this is a 144 scale kit, does that mean that RG and HG kits are the same size?
yes also that sticker on the shield is made to go on there way more crooked than u have it, in case u wondering why the edges didn’t line up quite right
Oh, small doesn't even begin to describe some of the parts on RG kits. Take the RX-78-2 for example. The only stickers on the head are the eyes. That's it. And I'm not talking about the red bit. I'm talking about just the eyes and the black surrounding the eyes. The yellow on the head vulcans, the grey inside the yellow head vulcans, the red rectangle on the top of the head? All separate parts. Real grades take pride in doing the absolute most at that size.
Grade scaling, from lowest "difficulty" to highest: EG = Entry Grade, 1/144 scale like that America Gundam HG = High Grade, 1/144 scale, more parts than the EG RG = Real Grade, 1/144 scale but way more detail than an HG can have. The "Real" name comes from how they are engineered to look like actual machines with heavy panel detailing. MG = Master Grade, 1/100 scale (can be swapped with RG depending on the kit's engineering). High detailing, most from the last 20 years have an inner frame that you can remove the armor plating to see the mechanics PG = Perfect Grade, 1/60 scale and one of the most expensive out there. Currently one of the largest offerings on the market, usually runs over $200 a kit. other current scales that don't have an official "grade" rating: SD = Super Deformed chibis. should be as easy to make as Entry Grade America Gundam Full Mechanics = 1/100 scale but less detailing. Usually one can expect High Grade levels of engineering in it instead of Master Grade. Mega = 1/48 scale, way too fucking big and bigger than a Perfect Grade. Marketed as easy to make like an HG to the point where the instructions actually encourage you to rip pieces out of the runners when you definitely shouldn't. edit: bah, you edited your post to the right acronym before i commented
Yeah, High Grades are considered the "standard" grade for Gunpla (and I think most Bandai kits, for that matter, at least engineering wise). They're still pretty straightforward builds, but nowhere near as complex as Real Grades. The big appeal with HGs is that not only are they quick builds and decent kits, but damn near every single mobile suit and its variants has been released as an HG kit. But since the "high grade" title has been used since the 90s, you might need to do a bit of research before buying a kit. You generally can't go wrong with anything released after 2010, though.
Well, kind of. What makes it kinda ironic with hindsight was that despite the lineup still having holes that have yet to be fulfilled, Gundam right now actually does the whole "Generations" thing much better than what HasTak is currently doing with the whole "Generations" thing in the last few years focusing on nothing but G1 again and again. Another thing to note about the High-Grade lineup; Despite most of the post-2000s High-Grade kits (starting from the revolutionary HG AGE lineup of 2011) are much better kits than what came before, there are still some modern release High-Grades that was just remold/retools of older High-Grade kits that aren't that great by today's standard (Such as some of the High-Grade kits from the Build meta-series); So it could be good to do some basic research on any kits you want, and temper your expectations on what to expect.
