I think that’s kind of the point, Clint is just done with all this. And I’d hardly call Kate a know-it-all, cause she seems to be far from it. Yes, it happened during Bendis’ run on Avengers in the aftermath of Disassembled. After Hawkeye’s supposed death, he went on to be Ronin. Eventually he left the role behind, but it still haunts him. It’s not really a political thing in this case, they’re deliberately like this because they’re from the comic that this series draws heavily from. They are literally ripped straight out of it. Matt Fraction and David Aja’s run on Hawkeye. Widely considered to be the quintessential Hawkeye comic. And one of the best modern comic runs in recent memory.
It might not have felt like it because daredevil spent so long complaining and brooding about his catholic guilt but there was a surprisingly large amount of action scenes in early daredevil and the fights themselves where brilliant too as they was brutally long to the point of being emotionally exhausting to watch rather than these forgettable, unsatisfying and clumsy looking noob fights in the dark from hawkeye. I’m personally not too fussed about the crimson daredevil costume as the terrible old movie had made it look pretty cheesy beforehand and black material over his head worked okay as an early costume for him. I think we can all agree season 2 of daredevil ran out of steam halfway through though remembering the fights from that show they certainly embarrasses this show in terms of showing what is possible for a made for TV superhero show. Season 3 being somewhat of a return to form for many people helped it probably be remembered fondly. It almost helps us forgive those two wasted potential punisher seasons (almost) Considering Hawkeye’s Ronin persona was essentially the MCU punisher wouldn’t it make sense for the punisher to make an appearance as the parallels between the two characters are so similar with them both going on murderous rampages upon losing their families and it could make some interesting conflicts between the two characters now that Hawkeye has got his family back from the dead and no longer wants to murder.
This might become my favorite Marvel series! It really fleshes out both Clint and Kate’s characters and makes me invested in them. This series has actually solidified Clint as the most important Avenger who shouldn’t die in my mind. He has a really nice family. Let the guy retire and die of old age! Kate is definitely confident and capable but it’s also clear she is still a novice. It’s gonna be great eventually seeing her co-lead the Young Avenger. Hailee stands out with her acting. I’m really looking forward to seeing how everything unfolds!
First episode felt rushed. The "evil" auction was underwhelming and the "I took martial arts classes so of course I can fight guys with guns" was as cliche as ever. Second episode was better.
Yeah I don't see how Kate can become an Avenger unless they time jump 5 years where she gets training from Clint...if she becomes a badass after first season then rename the show Mary Hawkeye.
Episode 1's opening credits explained ~10 years of training. Why does she need 5 more to not be a Mary Sue?
I'm liking how the trailers edited her line of "People call me the world's greatest archer" to be like she's boasting and full of herself but in the actual show she's just a nervous wreck trying to stay cool in front of her idol.
But even with that training she may be an exceptional archer, but her fighting is probably going to need a little more work…
Why? She spent a decade on archery, fencing, martial arts, and more. It's right there in the narrative. She literally spends more time training than Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. What more do you need her to do?
Well, even so she was still struggling in those fights from a martial arts standpoint, enough that Clint had to come along and help her. And I’m not making light of her achievements, but she probably needs just a little more training and experience before she can properly replace Clint. Which I’m sure she’ll get.
Depends on the training. All that stuff in the traditional setting - dojos, salle, etc wouldn't necessarily prepare someone for real world fights. But yeah if she went out into the world like Bruce did (at least according to the Nolan movies) to fight and train then it's more plausible.
I don't think anyone is saying she can't replace Clint, just that she can't do it yet, what's the rush? If it just happens all at once it feels rushed and unearned.
If you think her fighting is Hawk Eye or Black Widow level then you do you. Also Bruce Wayne trained with assassin ninjas, I'm sure Kate sparred with 10-15 yr olds in a dojo pretend fighting and not trying to kill one another.
I absolutely loved both episodes. Getting a mini-series set in New York is really nice & I like the Christmas setting. I've loved Clint since AOU, but if anything this series has already made his character even better. It's a great touch to bring in the deafness and it makes complete sense, as was set out. It's a subtle way of highlighting the physical toll being in so many combat zones takes. His whole intro scene at the musical was simply brilliant, it completely hooked me by itself. I love how this is really getting into Clint's psyche, putting his mental & emotional scars on full display. This whole inner conflict/contradiction he's feeling being this living hero who everyone admires & respects so much but they don't know what he did during the 5 years between Snaps is great. Spoiler However, I loved the end of the LARPing sequence - well I loved the whole thing, it was really funny - how patient & kind he was to the firefighter, and earlier how his paternal instincts took over with Katie when he cleaned her cut. He's got a lot of baggage & he's tired, but he's still an everyman hero through & through. I like the murder mystery that's been set up. The fencing session was also an effective way of building Jacques up, whatever part he's going to wind up playing. I'm also big into the class theme which has been established The Tracksuit Mafia were hilarious, especially in the final moments (can't believe ep 2 ended where it did; felt weird, but I suppose that's a good sign that I was so invested & fixated on getting 5 more minutes). Hailee is such an awesome young actress - her career is going to only continue to go up & up over the course of the near future - and she did a super job making Kate really enjoyable. She was just a really fun character to watch. Spoiler The opening credits to ep 1 showing all her training over the years was really creative & cool. While I'm on that note. opening on the Battle of New York was a superb way of kicking things off. While I feel the MCU has had a greater propensity for misses this year, stuff like this is why it'll continue to keep moving & succeeding - it's this care for continuity & where they came from, where even over 9 years since the film came out & around a decade-and-a-half in-universe, the events of The Avengers are still critical and being called back to. I think Kate strikes the great balance of being capable & getting to show this off whilst still being a noob who gets in over her head. Her hero-worship of Clint is a great starter for their dynamic and how flustered/awe struck she was around him upon introduction was incredible endearing. I already love their relationship, there's already layers, and I think seeing how it continues to develop will be my favorite aspect of this show going forward. Also, Lucky is a good boy.
How is it any more rushed than Scott Lang being Ant-Man after like a week of Hope beating the shit out of him as training? Or Steve Rogers with superpowers but no experience other than selling war bonds jumping in to rescue Bucky in First Avenger? Dr. Strange becoming Sorceror Supreme in barely any time when others had been training there for years?
show is set 2024, when she's 22. if she was 10 during the battle of NY (2012), then she wasn't snapped. wait how do you calculate age when you're dead for five years
Died and resurrected? Pick up where you left off. Spend a day in the room of spirit and time? Add the year.
