Oh right. His torso is purple. Well that means my random stab at color matching would have a slightly better chance of succeeding but still not great. Is there even a shattered glass MP44? I see there's a pre-order for a KO in those colors but I don't see any that currently exist.
Right. Because I was talking about TE-01 at the time. Sorry, I'm dumb. I'd still run into the problem of working from photos and I still haven't decided if I wanna do TE-01 at all. I imagine there'd be like two people out there who'd want a toy head for TE so the return on investment would be basically nothing, so it really comes down to whether I really want one for my Nemesis.
Sure but, like I've said, I'd still be guessing at the color match. When I match a color, I add hues and then paint a small piece and hold it next to the actual piece I'm trying to match. Repeat until I get it right. Color matching a photo depends on the lighting when the pic was taken, how accurate the camera is, and how accurate my screen is which means it has an almost zero chance of actually being accurate.
My box of screws just came in. What size screws are pictured there with the unpainted kit? Also, just curious - when you design this stuff in 3d how do you actually design the cavity for the screws, i.e. does it have the threads inside the cavity walls? Just wondering.
The bottom left and right compartments. M1.2*5 and M1.7*6. And no, I don't model the threads. You can either use a tap or just use self tapping screws (pretty much like regular screws but with sharper threads). I figured self tapping would be easier. As for modeling the holes, I read up on the screw sizes and found the dimensions to use. The holes in the back part are larger so the screws can go right through them (mostly - the small screws at the bottom tend to get stuck and have to be twisted through) while the holes in the front part are about halfway between the diameter of the screw's core and the diameter of the threads. I had actually wanted longer screws but this is what I found and they've been working really well - they've managed to pull the gap between parts closed fairly tightly.
Thank you, I really appreciate this. I hope to support your work again, you've made this tread a really enjoyable place to visit.
More like a conversion. I'd have to redesign the head to accommodate TE-01's transformation. I'd have to add in the moving crest and rotating antenna and build the bottom of the head (the part that's empty now) and design it to fit onto TE-01's neck. The more I think about it, the more it doesn't feel worth it. Printed resin is durable enough for being a head but it's not great at moving parts and friction. Plus I specifically designed the antennae to sit slightly behind his um... crown? that raised part between his eyes and top of his head... which blocks their rotation. Shattered Glass means nothing to me but damn, that color scheme looks cool! He looks mean! And I'm always a fan of Nemesis colors.
The head came in, technically it came in last night but I was at work so didnt have the time to swap heads till today. And what a nice head, money well spent. And while the blue is a bit off in person, since its separated by so much red it's not very noticeable, and I actually prefer the slightly duller shade anyway lol
Glad you like it. I really did try to match the color. I'll have to get more shades of blue sometime and see if I can do it better. Nothing in citadels worked (like I've said before, that blue is a blend of five different paints - three blues and two purples) but maybe there are some Tamiya shades that are closer.
