I don't think a true G1 drift is technically even possible.

He is. The character is considered part of the G1 continuity despite not appearing until 20-some-odd years later. For some folks he’s not “genuine G1”, but rather a late IDW postscript character. Regardless, that’s where he fits.

He is part of the IDW G1 continuity, but there were not any toys of him in the 80s, so I'm not sure you can really call any toy of him a G1 toy?

Meh, it’s just semantics and not worth arguing, in my opinion. IDW is recognized as a G1 reboot, and Drift was part of that, interacting with other characters that are accepted as G1. That’s good enough for me.

Besides, as far as I’m concerned there are no “new” G1 toys. WFC includes toys of G1 characters, but they’re not G1 toys. Masterpiece? Same situation. My old G1 toys are in a tub in my basement. Anything I’ve bought in the past 30 years isn’t a G1 toy.

Exactly. I own one G1 toy. It is, unsurprisingly, Ravage.

I just really appreciate when IDW designs are called that, because I'm looking for those.

About that new BB movie Soundwave toy that's been leaked...

I am one that loves alien looking stuff, especially spaceships and tend to have lots of imagination as I do alternative modes for many of my TFs to made suh alien type ships...that said, I still don't see what there were really going for... yeah yeah, I know.. that GI Joe comic that has been posted several times (and every poster thinking that he's the first to have noticed this), but it's doesn't have any sort of definition that really gives it a spaceship or such feel to it.. no thrusters, or any such details, as it can't even fit as a flying saucer type really.

But anyways... my "unpopular opinion" is that the robot does look good, great even, BUT... too humanoid, he looks like he's a robotic muscular He-Man type figure. All of the "details" look like robotic "muscles".

And I also don't like that blue beak in his face.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but it feels like people are twisting themselves into a pretzel with their "Oh its just a hover tank/hover craft/insert random vehicle name here" excuses because they can't bring themselves to criticize Hasbro and their "brick of nothing" vehicle modes that they've given to both Siege and BB Soundwave. Sure BB Soundwave didn't transform, but it's just a plain terrible alt mode.

What if I just like the look of it? Have you considered not everyone shares your opinion?

I don't think most of WFC will stand the test of time like previous lines.

Not that they won't age well or anything, but with the difference in materials, a bunch of tolerance and QC issues, and other stuff like yellowing, I don't think many will be in as close of their current condition as the toys from the late 90s to early 2010s have that haven't suffered through stuff like GPS.

And another one, while Kingdom Cyclonus is really well engineered, by god does he look really really boring.

Ya know, I've been thinking about that myself recently. All the clear plastic (and not the strong kind like the early 2000s stuff), Lots of Grey figures yellowing not a year after release, and at least 1/3rd of WFC suffering from truly huredious QC *cough* Earthrise *cough*, this stuff just wasn't made to last.

    AMEN.

Despite its short comings in the articulation department nowadays, I still prefer universe cyclonus. That figure has some life to it.

I totally agree. To be honest i only picked one up cause while i was mix matching battle masters to make Fracas for scourge, I ended up with a very decent nightstick so figured might as well.

Yeah, that's crossed my mind more than once while collecting them. It's nice to finally have an almost complete G1 cast (show cast, at least) in a near-uniform aesthetic, but every figure has one or two things to watch out for, coupled with things like transparent plastic or thin hinges that can result in big chunks of the figure just falling off (like the roofs of Jazz, the Datsuns, or almost certainly Tracks). Even with proper care and little exposure to sunlight, I wouldn't be surprised if Jazz and Jetfire are the color of cheap vanilla ice cream in 10 years. Plus, I've noticed more and more that yellowing seems to be affecting grey plastic too. Like, I know that's not a new revelation, but I am routinely seeing figures with grey plastic with an ugly greenish-yellow tinge to the plastic right out of the box. My ER Megatron was like that on some of the joints (elbows and thighs in particular), my Netflix Soundwave has issues with it, and my Kingdom Cyclonus' greyish bits just look off (like, more off than the plastic already is). It's not a good sign if they're having those issues right away.

And I can kinda agree on Cyclonus. Robot mode is so damn boring, but I do really love the vehicle mode simply for the slickness of it. It looks like it came from the movie, it's so accurate with no kibble to speak of.
