Huh this is out already? IMDB is so unreliable with its notification emails. Honestly I expect very little from the show, but I like the main actor, and hey, it cannot be worse than CW's Arrow, I mean hard to do that in just one season? ;)
I never realized this girl is the same as the one from the Bee movie. Honestly that movie was so unmemorable I never rewatched it and mostly forgot it. Bay movies at least have been memorably bad, Bumblebee was unmemorably mediocre.

Going to agree about the dialogue. Some of Kate's lines are a bit...

Well to put it simply, it sounds a lot like how Marvel comics are written by "How you do, fellow kids" writers. Out of touch adults assuming how real teens/young adult talk like.

There's be a good irony if they brought back Vincent's Kingpin and use a fat suit since the comics drastically slim down Fisk over the last few years to the point of looking like a taller version of D'Onofrio

lol yeah, I remember that from the comics, it was like an comic exaggerated take on the basic concepts of Sumo training. I love when comics do stuff like that.

So watching the first episode's intro now, and... Why is this called Hawkeye when it clearly seems this Kate girl is the main character and not him? I know nothing about most Marvel Avengers comics, is she basically the new Hawkeye in the comics? Is this gonna be like Falcon and Winter Soldier with it ending with him stepping down and she becoming the next Hawkeye?

She is also Hawkeye, Kate Bishop in the comics is Hawkeye's protégé.

Ah. So poor Hawkeye, never got his own movie, and now that he is finally getting his own series, he will be replaced. Bummer.
Y'know that's one of my problem with movie adaptations of comics, they rush things too fast. I mean the Batman trilogy got to No Man's Land after 2 movies, too. The Avengers stopped 2 major crisises and then disbanded by Civil War. What happens over lots of years of lots of issues and stories in a comic happens in just a few years in a movie franchise.
I mean poor Black Widow only got her first movie posthumously...

Looked her up - yeah no wonder I never heard of Kate. She is from 2005. That's an about as new replacement as Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle. And around the time when I kinda lost interest in major comics.
    Katherine Bishop (Earth-616)

Btw, since when does Hawkeye has a hearing aid? Some war injury? He doesn't seem that old yet... Maybe was mentioned in some older movie and I just forgot.
I was totally with Clint btw, man that musical was pure cringe. He probably felt like Bruce Wayne did during the Batman one. :)

Btw, I knew the name Armand Duquesne sounded familiar. He is the father of Swordsman, Jacques Duquesne.
    Jacques Duquesne (Earth-616)

The most impossible thing in the episode was not how the Ronin suit somehow fits a young girl a head shorter than Hawkeye, but how she could easily type an SMS on a smartphone in those bulky gloves. I call bullshit on that, have you ever tried using a touchscreen in gloves? :D

Hawkeye was left partially deaf in a 1983 issue and that character trait was kept or dropped depending on the writer. In 2012 with Fraction's Hawkeye he brought that back and made it a staple to the character once again.

He's just partially deaf in the comics.

The reasoning is given in the second episode. Basically, all the explosions that Clint was near or at in the films has done a number on his hearing over the years.

Well to be fair they've been building up that Clint wants to retire and settle down with his family since Ultron, but there comes circumstances that force him out of retirement, so him passing the mantle and finally retire seems to be like the obvious conclusion to his arc

I just watched the first two episodes and for me this is probably the most disappointing of the shows as so far as nothing has grabbed my attention or successfully got me invested in the characters or story.

I hope it doesn’t happen but if this show continues to dip into mediocre and sloppy looking action scenes set at night and forgettable dialogue this could end being Disney plus’s iron fist in that it being the easy to point to show to signify Disney plus spreading itself too thinly in terms of quality.

The main character of this show also seems to suffer with similar problems to the one in Iron Fist in that it’s a mighty posh person who we often get told about how skilled they are but we only rarely get to see it in action and the character seems to spend ages reacting to threats armed with a lot of plot-armour rather than making decisions or doing things they believe in.

I’m sure it could improve if the suspected villain and character from the after the credits scene of black widow show up but both of those characters are fondly remembered because they either went out on a high or stole the show in their previous appearances so if this show doesn’t give them any good dialogue or anything meaningful to do in the storyline their return will be a diminishing one that only succeeds at being a watered down version of when we last saw them.

The show also suffers with what shows like the A-team and He-Man used to suffer with and that is having lethal weapons that can’t be used because nobody can be seen be being killed in the age demographic of this show.

I’m crossing my fingers on the hope it improves but compared with after two episodes for all of the other Disney plus shows my levels of confidence in it are the lowest of the lot.

It's not mindblowing but it's way better than that crappy winter soldier/falcon snooze-fest.

if someone at Disney isn't already working on an actual "Rogers: The Musical" stage performance for one of the theme parks then they are- most CERTAINLY- throwing away their shot.

Man, that LARPing scene... that was cringe. I wish Clint would have muttered "and this is why Batman has a secret identity". :D

I seen it now, but I thought maybe this happened in Endgame or something and I just missed it.
Ah, OK, I get it so it is a reference to the comics... Bit late to bring that in, but ah well.
I frankly always hoped they would maybe give him his classic costume someday, but same as how CW's Arrow never really made the suit properly green, they could not make his properly purple either.
Was the whole Ronin costume change also from the comics? It felt so... unnecessary. He is Ronin for like one scene and then ditches the mask for the rest of the movie. That's like if Antman turned into Yellowjacket for one scene only to reference that he was that in the comics.

Yeah, but see, that was also way too early. Ultron was the second Avengers movie, and Hawkeye was in, what, Thor and then Avengers 1 before? We seen this superhero only three times and he now wants to retire. That felt about as disingenuine as when James Bond was old and wanted to retire in Skyfall, his THIRD movie. Too soon.

Really? 'cause I dunno, that series had actual action and some chemistry between the leads, this has a know-it-all girl and a tired hero who clearly does not want to be there.

It honestly reminds me of the Netflix Marvel shows, where it takes ages for Daredevil to actually get into costume and fight someone... or especially the second Punisher show where they are hiding out in some flat for like half of the series.

Btw, I know, US politics wants to have russians look bad, so every show and movie now has dumb russian gangsters, but the whole stereotype of the tracksuit-wearing dumb bald russians who can barely speak english is just annoying at this point. It's as bad as the italian gangster stereotypes from old movies. I'd be surprised if the real russian mafia still dressed and acted like this.
