Not my favourite Starscream design out of the ones they could have chosen. But a moot point, since these are out of my price range anyway.
I'll be more interested in seeing this once they get the articulation and mechanics cut in. It's hard to judge how cool this could look with it looking so... basic, at the moment. I'm still a bit annoyed that we don't have a proper ~Voyager-sized transforming figure of this Seeker design yet (and no, the iGear Raptor squadron does not count).
what's with the random sword? is this an older IDW design i don't recognize or something original? the forearm mounted guns i only remember animated and cyberverse having before now
Oh shit- correct me if I'm wrong but it appears the sword on the lower left side are tucked away in his wings. Sweet.
This is based on Guido Guidi's "Thundercracker" design (in that it only got used for Thundercracker proper. Starscream got a derivative of the body based on the Combiner Wars Leader remold from Jetfire). Looks like there's ports on the shoulders for optional gun positions. As for the sword, Flame Toys likes to embellish their designs with influence from other continuities, like how Prime ended up with an extended arsenal based on Animated and the WFC game and his movie swords. The sword in this case is probably somewhat of a reference to Armada Starscream, and also makes use of the separated wing slats from Guido's design.
oh cool it IS the guidi design, i thought the legs and helmet seemed weirdly familiar but couldn't totally place it. if the sword's an armada homage it's definitely a stretch, at best it very very vaguely resembles the star saber but is otherwise like you said mostly wing filler lol
Yeah, it doesn't really look like Armada Starscream's sword at all. But AEC is the only time that Starscream's been especially associated with swords, so we'll call it a loose nod at best.
Sleek anime robot feel and over the shoulder cannons. And is that sword storage in the wings? If the Armada Starscream we're getting next year looked something like this I'd have zero complaints. Can't wait to see it painted (even though it'll likely be G1 colors).
Also taking from Armada Starscream, it also looks like he's got big shoulder cannons. You can see the barrels from the back view, and slider plates on the sides of the intakes to extend them further. You should be able to tip the intakes down over his shoulders.
If this gets me a good toy that's pretty accurate to the AHM-Unicron era IDW1 Thundercracker, I'm definitely interested. I'd definitely want Buster and Marissa too though!
